What are you, nuts? Keep the C3.

(Might want to go to the C5 or C6 Forum for encouragement.....! Those fruit loops will tell you what you need.

OK...good. If I had excess cash I would consider a C6. The C5 it too rounded, hate the steering wheel, interior is just boring. C6 starts to be somewhere as cool as a C3, but not completely. I just think of it as too modern with no character....although I would use it as a Daily Driver.

For looks, definitely c6.

I have worked on a few C5's and C6's...both Z06 and not. Some with aluminum frames and carbon fiber fenders and others without...and I have repaired these Corvettes when they hit the wall and got smashed up..and also when the fixed roofs would being to come apart.

So reading that you were going to autocross it (occasionally)...I guess it will depend on how serious you are going to be when you do that...and IF you get hooked and autocrossing now becomes an obsession.

If you feel that may be the case. Then ..before you get one...take into account how competitive you are wanting to be in autocrossing and chose the car from that.

Nothing is worse when I have some of these guys in my shop commenting on how they regret the car they got due to what it can provide. And wishing that they got another Corvette that can give them an edge.

But like I tell them and remind them that from what they told me that they did not buy it with the intention to being serious about autocrossing...but they grew into it..so...the car that they bought that they thought they would not be doing serious autocrossing...obviously a metamorphosis took place and it changed into it.

I feel that trying to stay a bit more current may be to your benefit...but what do I know.

I have a C6 that I AutoX every other weekend. I too planned on doing it occasionally. LOL. I like the C6 much better than C5s BUT for autocross the ZO6 package is tough to beat. I would not part with my C6 though. Looks like I need another Vette...

If you are going to autocross and want to go a bit cheaper, get a C5 FRC. Other than that go C6 and have fun.

I bought a C5 Z06 new in 02 and owned it for over 10 years. I bought an 07 Z06 new but couldn't bring myself around to selling the 02 because it was the best car I have ever owned. Nothing ever went wrong. Nothing ever broke. It was never in for warranty once so I felt like I was really cheated on that. They are dirt cheap now and a bargain for one that has been even close to taken care of. Get the best one you can find and you won't be sorry.

I have been a road racing instructor from the time that C5s were new I was so dissapointed in the first Z06 models at only 405 hp which carried on into the base model C6 no power and the interior would fill with burnt brake smell in just a couple of hot laps. The 427 models were the only model I would ever consider buying because at 505 hp and lots of TQ they were full of life and fun to drive

then jump to the modern era vettes. The ZR1 with 625 supercharged hp are now over 10 years old and they can be found for only $40k in excellent condition. My X-boss picked one up and it is really something. High speed stuff like road racing scares him, but for the past couple years he was competing all the SCCA Solo events

save all your pennies and get a 427 or the ZR1

If you are going to autocross, I am partial to the C6 over the C5Z06. I have a 10 C6Z06 and man it is a track car on the street. Tough to beat 505 Net HP and 3,100 lbs..............

The aftermarket modded vettes might be the other way to go

Whatever I buy is going to modded with out a dought I figured a c5z would be a better bang for the buck to start with but I do like the c6 looks over a c5 ! The drivetrain would be modded for more power no matter witch car I start with! Ls2 c6 are pretty cheap the ls3 cars are a little more depending on mileage I probably won’t pull the trigger on some thing until fall or next spring so I have some time to figure it out

Since you have time. You could join SCCA. Online they have an extensive for sale list of cars. From mild to all out racers. At the end of the season lots of people are selling.

Grass Roots Autosports magazine likes the C5 Z06 for AutoX and probably a bargain over the C6 if you can find a good one. For the C6 Z06 you need to do your homework on the valve guide issue with these cars. It's all here in the C6 forum. I personally prefer racing my C3 over my C6 just for the throwback experience these cars provide. Do not have the C6 set up for autoX or anything else for that matter and I am just not that competitive anymore, so it is purely fun.

C5s even some c6s are not too badly priced, lots of nice car for the money if its your cup o tea,

What concerns me on on these later cars with more computers than the moon landing, some electronic parts are not being made, what does an owner do in those cases?
