Starter not doing anything? Do you have headers? Is it just cranking?

This is the c4 section btw...

Coil?

Take coil wire off and see if it has oil on it.

starter going bad,or overheating

try driving it to get hot [bring a gal jug of water with],and if it doesn't start,try pouring a 1/2 a gal of water on it to cool it off,then see if it starts,,

Does it crank over? Or does it do nothing when you turn the key? A little more info would be good.

had that problem many years ago, after i installed headers. that little inline resistor at the starter was failing after it got hot. spliced in a new one and no more issues.

Classic heat soak. Is the stock starter shield in place?

mvftw 05-17-2018 12:09 PM

Do you have HEI?

calwldlife 05-17-2018 12:28 PM

crank=starter spinning.
start=engine runs

Do you smell gas after a few minutes? My carburetor floods and it takes a lot to start it for that 20-40 minute window.

Hamster's leg caught in the wheel?

NewbVetteGuy 05-17-2018 04:17 PM

Very very common.

My understanding is that the two main sources of this problem are: overheated starter (starter doesn't even attempt to roll over) and overheated carb.

-Insulation around the starter helps with the 1st problem; insulating carb spacer solves the 2nd.

-I had this happen to my car once in midwest heat 2 summers ago; mine was the starter overheating.
