Kit car, body, lotus, something that uses C4 running gear
So.. I'm parting a '92.
Thinking of vette kart or some open roadster project. What uses C4 front/rear suspension, etc ? Thinking like Lotus 7, dune buggy, 20s/30s ford, etc Fibreglass dash with autometer gauges, no carpet. -- Joe |
Personal choice would be a '32 with some C4 running gear.

Don't know if these guy's are still kicking, but they are right in Lebanon NH

Why not use the suspension to build a sleeper Jeep/Scout/Bronco?
|
Could get a 63 corvette grandsport, take the body off and put a more c4 modern suspension/ underpinnings onto it |
Last week at a gas station I talked to a guy with a 55 Ford truck, LS powered with C4 suspension. It looked really nice, stock looking body but low to the ground.

My vote is Corvette Kart. Cheap, easy(you have about 80%+ of what you need) and tons of fun when done. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...e32b17bc0.jpeg 93 chassis donor. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...018e61161.jpeg Cage fabrication. |
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...adcc70d9f.jpeg How about a Cheetah replica? Everybody and their brother builds Cobra’s, so be a little different. I know where you can get a Cheetah(Winslow replica) chassis and fuel cell. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...764aef7b6.jpeg Winslow Cheetah chassis built by Winslow MotorSports. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...1a22c3623.jpeg You could use your C-4 front uprights and brakes, just design and build upper & lower a-arms. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...e8040a753.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...71ab4bcbd.jpeg Fuel Safe fuel cell designed and built specifically for this chassis. Never used. |

That's a complex chassis and I hate to criticize, but there are a lot of cold welds in that example. The geometry of those front control arm pivot points is torturous!
 |
That Cheetah is badazz, if that doesnt scream HotWheel nothing does!
Setting a different suspension on a tube frame, positioning things right always baffled me. Takes talent Friend has a 1940 LaSalle with a C4 suspension under it. When $ permits the 472 is coming out and a 572 will go in. Anyone remember when C4s were stolen left and right for their suspensions? |
V-8 Miata? It’s been done a lot, so all the info needed to build one is out there. |

That's an understatement! If those don't have rod ends, those tabs are going to rip right off the frame or have so much bind that the suspension won't move. If they do use rod ends, they will be at the end of their travel range. Someone didn't properly envision the control arm arcs when setting that up.
Ill have to discuss this with the gentleman who designed and fabricated the chassis. The front suspension was modeled in CAD and has been used on the other Cheetah replicas that he built. I will see if there have been issues with the design. Here is a picture of how the upper A-arm is built. |
