clutch bellcrank pivot ball- 1957

In working through the refitting of a four speed into an original 4 speed fitted to PG car I have run into an issue not addressed in the repair manuals.
The frame mounted clutch pivot ball rotates in its mount. Not just the ball itself, but the stem that is in the frame stand.
Is this normal? is it a case of stripped threads.?
When I turn it, it seems to catch but then slips loose again.
I can't get it to turn out of the mount.
Is this something I can ignore? Can I stake the pivot mount to hold it in place?
Do I have to replace it?
Is it pressed in, or threaded. Could I put a weld on the back side for safe keeping?
Thanks for your help.

Dennis

originally staked/ peened in. you can weld it if you can get access to it.

I had same issue with my 57. I welded it from backside - a little tight, but doable.

Vettepoor,
I think that is the plan for me as well. I don't have a welder but I think I can get the local repair/muffler shop that I use to put a couple of tacks on it.
Too tight to get in there with a hammer and drift to peen it.
Thanks,
Dennis
