Wilwood d8-4 or d8-6 colors?

I order some wilwood d8-4 calipers for the rears and some d8-6 for the fronts in the anodized clear finish. They came in today and are the d8-6 calipers are a silver/white color and the d8-4's are a grey (like advertised on sumitt). For those that have them, Is this color difference normal?

I'm waiting on a return call from sumitt and wilwood about this. Just trying to figure out why the drastic difference?

wilwood now offers the spectrum of colors, not just black, silver and red. Someone just screwed up your order and packaged the wrong one.

Don't feel bad, it happened to me too regarding the D8-4's. Contact ctibbet@wilwood.com and I'm sure he'll help you sort things out. He was a huge help for me. :flag:

It's variations in the anodizing process and base materials. Seen it happen on "halves" also- with one half of the caliper darker than the other....that's been corrected now in assembly but the pairs may still not match as you see here.

Summit obviously won't cross check that you get matchy-matchy as they pull from a big inventory of white boxes. You'll likely need to tell then which one you want and ask them to find you matched pair. Hopefully they have them for you.

Other suppliers make certain it doesn't happen when the orders are shipped directly from the Wilwood warehouse as the orders as specific to check before shipping.

Thanks for the replies..... summit didn't have much of an answer and just looked for another set to match the either the silver or grey and couldn't find anything. They were so kind as to not inform me they cancelled my replacement order.

I also ordered some drllled/slotted brake rotors from them that came in solid black (i ordered the rotors with the black hubs and silver colored rotor, and is what they show on their site). Box had the right part number but the wilwood boxes inside do not.

I guess I'll have to give wilwood a call or if TCE can help me out so i can some sort of a match set (any chance of coming close to sumitts pricing?).

Thanks,

Ryan

I built a 64 Lemans pro-touring type car that I built using my just-in-time method of ordering parts, meaning that I ordered things during the week that I might need for the weekend to come. This meant that I ordered the front brakes long before I did the back.

It wasn't until I was finally replacing the rollers with my new wheels that I finally noticed I had ordered the front brakes in red and the backs in black.

I've not had a single person make a comment about it. *shrug*

OK......After a lot of back and forth with summit and wilwood it sounds like they figured out what's going on. New vs old batches/colors and nobody decided to inform summit of the changes. When I spoke with wilwood they confirmed the dark grey is for the D8-6 calipers #140-11857. Looks like summit was able to get some more information out of them when they called. See below for what summit sent me:

"I called Wilwood to see if i can get some answers. They told me that they recently upgraded the color of the calipers to the darker gray. So it is more than likely we have the old batch.

I also checked to see if they have any of the WIL-140-11857 of the darker gray color in stock and they do. So I can have then sent directly from Wilwood to you. Let me know what you would like to do.

We appreciate your business."

Just updating this for anyone looking at buying some anytime soon, make sure you ask about the correct colors.

Ryan

Actually, I bought my D8-6, D8-4 combo from TCE and he was very cheap. Great to deal with too!
