Newer style emblems opinions

I saw a thread earlier today that someone added new emblems to their C5Z and it got me thinking about updating to C6 or C7 emblems.

What's yalls opinion on updated Corvette emblems in place of the originals?

Edit: After posting this I did a search and found it to not be a very popular idea at all. Lol. Please forgive me. I think it might look cool tho.

This ^

I was ready to watch you get roasted and burn in flames, but then you wised up and saved yourself with the edit.

I have c6z style emblems on my car and I modified the front emblem to more resemble that of the c6... I like it, some don't and I get that but at the end of the day you have to do what makes you happy

My keyring has the C7 emblem, I think it looks good. My Corvette hat has the C6 emblem and the car I drive wears the C5 emblem, I like them all. Frankly, if you go through with the change, outside of a Corvette show, I suspect only 1 out of 100 people would even notice you changed the emblems on your C5. As long as you don't go this route, I think you should be OK.

Seems unlikely it would be even that high. I have trouble with how many owners I associate with that don't know.
I went with one of the chrome metal emblems on the front, with the original black plastic on the back -- and have yet to have a single person note the difference.
Nor do I expect to...

I did a ring and flagpole delete and removed the trunk/hatch one altogether, no reason for it...purist hate my car. I think that flows well with the curves of the car. Crappy pic but I think you can see it.

looks good to me:thumbs:... I did mine similar but I left the flagpoles about half of their original length

Honestly, my FRC has really old emblems on it, due to how bad of shape they were in the previous owner snapped off the flagpoles and ring from the front one and totally removed the rear.

Im seriously planning to repaint the car within the next year or so (especially considering the terrible condition of the paint on the roof which shows fiber glass fibers....) anyways the point is, due to the fact that my car already has an emblem that looks non standard it got me wondering if C6 or C7 prongs would even fit the car. I’d probably go with a blacked out C6 emblem because it would be less of a departure from the original compared to the C7 emblem (which I love btw) also the C6 emblems appear to be made of metal as opposed to cheap plastic? (Please correct me if I’m wrong) which would make me feel better about spending the money on emblems in the first place.

While I like the look of the newer emblems, I just think they belong on the newer cars. But, if you want to put them on your C5, go for it. It is after all your car and you're the one that has to be happy with how it looks.

The red flag on my front emblem was faded so replaced it with a new stock one. Like new again.

Each generation of Corvette is unique and different in it's own way as are their emblems.....you don't glue an apple stem on an orange.

I bought an expensive pair of C5 emblems online, looked good out of the box. After one week of exposure to the Florida sun the graphics began to fall apart and the plastic base curled up at the edges. The outline was still ok so I downloaded the graphics from several sources and edited the pictures to eliminate defects caused by the process of taking the picture.

After deciding on the best version I took the picture files to a local graphics and signs shop. They made me some high quality flags on decal paper. I cut and trimmed the flags to fit the emblem outlines and after installing them I sealed the results with clear urethane water based paint brushed on. They look as good as the originals and have lasted for two years.

I removed the rear emblem altogether, and trimmed the front. Easier to clean around, more time to clown around.

It's your car and you can do anything you want to it. Personally if you're worried about how others perceive your car then you're doing the car hobby completely wrong and need to 180 it.

I see nothing wrong with utilizing newer style logos, considering too how rather cost prohibitive the OEM C5 emblems are. You can find C6 and C7 emblems in a variety of styles for much cheaper.

The only thing that gets me is when people add too many emblems or emblems that note an incorrect model (like putting Z06 emblems on a non-Z06 car).

It isn't how others perceive your car, it's how they perceive the owner with his visions of grandeur. The car ain't anything but a C-5,

It seems most of the car shows I go to there are contest with people judging the cars. So I wouldn't say asking others opinions is doing the car hobby "completely wrong" The biggest thing to come to the car community in the last decade is the Cars and Coffee fad. And that's nothing but showing off your car for the admiration of others. I just started autocrossing and am trying to find that good balance of -dinner on Friday night-Cars and Coffee Saturday- AutoX on Sunday. I know that has nothin to do with emblems but I ask also to get the opinions of like minded enthusiasts, it is a forum after all.

The Rabbi 06-13-2018 11:57 AM

I decorated my car the way I like it, don't care about what other people think. Opinions are like aholes (you know the rest).

Do what you want to the car, it's yours. I avoid Corvette shows and their judging. The winners are garage queens and mine is a DD and lives in a carport but still looks new with 100k miles.

Compliments to your Vette. Really tastefully modified. A great example of balancing classic design cues with a modern touch.
Well Done ! :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

It is YOUR car and nobody else's! Do what you think looks good! Personally, I think the C5 crossed flag emblems are not attractive. Too "busy" and bulky. Hell, I recently committed "C5 owner treason" by completely removing my rear 50th Anniversary emblem, replacing the fender "Z06" badges with some billet "LSX" replacements, and replacing my front 50th Anniversary emblem with a black one with carbon overlays like the one pictured below. Not everyone will approve, but I don't give a flying fook. My car! :yesnod:
