Those with an 05...

I'm considering purchasing my first C6. The one I'm looking at is a base 05 with about 60K miles black on black manual for 19K.

Any thoughts on the information above? Is it a good deal in your opinion? Thanks.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...d502300e88.jpg

Also, is there any problems with the 05's or C6 in general that i need to know about before considering the car? Thanks.

Researching these items in this forum may be helpful......2005 rear end weakness....C-6 (all)....harmonic balancer......fuel tanks......rear end popping......shift cable grommets (if auto)......park lock out solenoid..(if auto).....good luck in your purchase.

I really enjoy my 05. Does the car have the z51 suspension package? 60k miles may be low for the years but not very low for the car, if that makes sense. The weak diff was basically on the 6m cars which I see this one is. Along with items already mentioned, there was also a targa roof peeling recall. Just my opinion as another 05 owner, I would feel more comfortable about a grand less. Good luck in your decision and please keep us posted.

I read all these before I bought mine. It had 13k on it, I have over 17 now less than 2 years. Knock on wood no problems. Go topless and enjoy! Looks pretty clean. Don't forget to park the car in reverse!

I've had my '05 almost 2 years now. My problems:
  • rear axle noise - dealer repaired both on purchase
  • MN6 shifting - I fixed with mgw shifter, trans fluid change.
  • Headlight crazing - I replaced with new lenses
  • Top crazing - I replaced w/new transparent, old is now a solid color top for hot sun days.
  • Hud (Sun damage) mirror wiggle - I replaced
  • clutch - Ranger method about 10 weeks in a row and once every six months thereafter
  • replaced all fluids and filters

I have now 55K miles (new to me 44K) and it runs like a new car. I've done some other (optional) changes cosmetic changes and I would not hesitate to buy an 05.

Yours might be different, but at least that is my experience. I do all my own work so the items were not that expensive for me, except the new top. The price depends on your part of the country, but I'd do it for 19K.

And you do understand that your 2005 has the smaller displacement LS2 engine vs the larger LS3 engine in the later model C6s.

mellojoe 06-13-2018 05:52 PM

2005,2006, and 2007 all had the LS2. But there is about a $4,000 premium just to jump from an 07 to an 08 with all things being equal. If his budget is 19k, it will be hard pressed to squeeze in an LS3 car.

Who notices an extra 30 hp unless they're on a race track? 400 is more than enough for every day street driving.

True ...

I have 05 base 1SB, which is 3LT, right now 65,000 miles, it's my daily driver, and loads of fun.
I have no complaints with car, had it 7 years, now!

I have an '05, M6, Z51, pretty much every option. It was a 1 owner and had obviously been well cared for, garage kept, very, very clean. I have changed fluids and filters, polished and waxed, etc. I love it, no regrets, now has 48K on the clock. I would have gotten newer with LS3 but didn't want to spend that much. My wife has SS Camaro with LS3, it's a great motor but the LS2 is no slouch.

In my opinion would not buy a 05-07 because of way the steering feels. Vast improvement in the later years well well worth the added expense. This is something that will really grind on you if do much driving. Seems everybody is concerned about the larger engine but to me the improved steering rack in the 08s and up is the most important thing by far.

I've had my '05 Z51 since new & have about 53K miles on the odo (yep, a weekend driver). Have not experienced any unusual problems, just normal maintenance changing fluids, filters, tires, brake pads & rotors, coolant flush, etc, etc. The comments about a weak differential are of no consequence unless you're tracking the car; likewise the rear axle noises in 2005 thru 2009 were the result of incorrect diff fluid installed at the factory (insufficient friction modifier). The correct fluid was identified & by now all years have been corrected by their owners. Certainly a later model year might be preferable, but if you've found a good '05 with a good maintenance record & it fits your budget, then go for it!

I purchased an ‘05 C6 6m w Z51 with 63,000 miles a year ago for for just a tad more than your price. Haven’t had an issue that I couldn’t handle myself, and not too many at that. People talk about the’weak’ differentials, but my take on that is the issues are mainly found on cars that are auto crossed or driven extremely hard. If you drive like it’s your only car, you won’t have issues.
I changed out all the fluids over the winter (made sure to use the recommended fluids per GM’s recommendation) and haven’t heard Click’s from the rear end, no not by shifting, etc. I love my car!

Had an 05 auto...absolutely loved it. No problems with it. Traded it in on the Z (only reason to get rid of it). Wish I had it back. I would try to get a better price though.

HUM ???....never heard this one before. Could you elaborate a little bit on the difference ?? Know this is probably a dumb question....but could the average person tell the difference between the two while blind folded ??

Bought an '05 vert 3 years ago with 28k miles, base suspension, Auto, upgraded interior, Bose. Have 31k miles now. Put on a set of Michelin PSS, 4 wheel alignment, new battery and other than coolant change and yearly oil changes no problems.

I LOVED my 2005 C6. Lemans Blue (best blue ever!), manual, Z51 coupe. Decently modded. Cam + header + intake + exhaust + tune + coilovers, etc. Overall was putting a little over 100 rwhp over stock. Zero problems with it.

Gman in NC 06-14-2018 01:26 PM

My '05' has been great and I'm the original owner. No problems and I'm at 56,000 miles.

Ssnobrakes 06-14-2018 02:24 PM

Love my 05 Velocity yellow 6sp/ convertible..........I prefer the steering wheel on the 05 then on the 06 and up.
