Warbonnet Yellow color check

I'm considering buying this car which is supposed to be Warbonnet Yellow. But this car looks closer to Riverside Gold. I know that photos can distort color...

Please share your opinions on if this is the correct shade of Warbonnet Yellow.

Thanks.

Mine was repainted and it's not quite the right color of WBY but it's real close. There is more yellow in mine than gold.

Paint

Very interesting that colors look so different. My 71 project call for War Bonnet Yellow which from the door jambs looks like a gold. Wonder what paint products these pictures used. Can you share>

The first picture is WBY.

Here is my original 72 WBY

To my eye, WBY has always appeared to have a slight tinge of green in the color. The car you are considering does not appear to have that look.

But, the gold portion of the paint looks good. It just doesn't have the WBY 'look', IMO.

{Note: In that same time-frame, Bridgehampton Blue and Steel Cities Gray have that same tinge of green in the color mix. So, I think the person specifying the Corvette paint colors had a 'thing' going on with making them a little different. Interestingly, those three colors are some of the most prized of that period. You can really see that in GTR1999's third pic. Look at the highlights around the body breaks/edges in that sunlit photo. If that is the original factory paint, that is one beautiful car!!}

I think GM had a lot of left over green paint and not enough silver and yellow.

Green + Yellow = War Bonnet Yellow
Green + Silver = Steel Cities Gray

Can I see the rear (Taillight / Bumper view)
Btw, my car is original WBY too, and Looks totally diffrent dependig what angle the light (sun) hits the Body, or if there is no sun out at all... GM called These Special efect colours
"firemist Colors" as they first apeared in '1971

Great Pictures, GTR1999 !!!!

GTR1999 06-19-2018 12:15 PM

Thanks, that is the original paint with just a minor touch up on the LF fender 35 years ago. I bought this car in 1979 with the complete history. The paint shows some stress cracks in it at the rigth angle but I drive the car so I'll keep it like that. Look great with saddle leather interior.

Right, it seems to be missing the green. That's exactly why I started this thread.

I like the AR wheels

The roadster is sitting high in the back- look for suspension work, new spring, etc. I had chrome headers and pipes on my 72 when I bought it but hated them, sold them for $100 within the first year I owned the car. 73 has a very similar but different gold, there was a nice 73 roadster with white top near me at the time I would have bought if it came up for sale but that was close to 40 years ago and it's long gone by now. I passed on a mint 71 LT1 coupe about 10 years ago for $25k, my son was in college at the time so I couldn't afford it but it was another WYB car I liked a lot.

War Bonnet Yellow was the most popular color in 1971. Seeing all the pictures here I know the reason why. WBY just shows off the lines and curves of the C3 so well and as people have posted it actually looks different in different lighting condition. Very cool.
When I first bought mine I wasn't a huge fan of WBY but over the years it's grown on me big time. At this point the only other color I'd ever paint my Vette would be Ontario Orange. Love that color too but when I get mine repainted one day it will be WBY.

IMHO, that looks more like '73 Yellow Metallic. Sharp car though!

I always lean to black but a lot gets lost in black,
On the chrome bumper cars wby is a rather stunning color,
In person i find it down right odd, but like it, it does make the lines pop
