1968 Coupe 427/390 all numbers matching very original, 36K miles
 

Selling my 1968 all numbers matching 427/390hp coupe, this car has everything including its original spare and spare tire, recently completed a minor restoration, the rare stereo radio was repaired and is in perfect working order. Had all the bushings replaced as they were the original factory bushings and disintegrated when removed, the car was re-aligned and my mechanic was surprised to find that the car had never been aligned before, the factory shims were still in place. The car was aligned and the factory shims were saved. A number of rubber weatherstripping around the t-tops were replaced.

Clock and all gauges work perfectly, alternator is correct date code

The gas tank was dropped and the there was enough of the tank sticker remaining to confirm the 390 hp Turbo-jet engine, the M-21 close ratio transmission, positraction rear end, leather interior, and British Green paint
The orginal tank was removed, the sticker sealed, and a brand new tank was installed, the original tank with the tank sticker will be included.
The car also has a fuel return line, no radiator overflow tank, and 5600 redline tach, confirming the 390hp engine option.

Paint is in good condition, there are two small cracks by the front passenger hood mount, but all in all good driver quality paint
This car is well optioned and as you see below, has two rare options, the rear window defrost and the factory car alarm, all the parts for the car alarm are there, the plungers in each door, the horns in the rear wheel wells, and the key in the rear valance, I did not have it hooked up as it has been known to drain the battery.
Interestingly the car has fender extensions and exhaust cutouts from a 70, it looks like they were added at some point or as a replacement but I could not find any evidence of damage.
Car was delivered new to Hamilton Chevrolet in Warren Michigan.

I bought this to fix up and enjoy before moving onto the next project

Very original vs all original, pretty impressive that it survived 50 years without major changes. I surmise that someone liked the look of the 70 exhaust and the fender extensions to keep the rock chips away, much like how some people cut the middle out of split window coupes

It was, it was in Denver and was shipped down to me, needed a few minor things fixed (radio, clock, etc) but runs like a charm

I'd be one of those people that prefers the 68/69 front and the 70 rear.

It would not be hard to swap out the rear valance and the exhaust tips for 68 round tips, I think it adds interesting character to the car

I thought the rear view mirror was at the front of the door only on the early cars?

An observation about your photos of the rear end: The third picture shows the inboard tail lights as red. The fifth picture shows the inboard tail lights with the reverse lights installed.

Correct, somewhere along the line someone had but 70 backup lights in the inner spots, I replaced them with correct red lamps so all four are now correct 68 date coded lenses.

Maybe a dumb question, if this car was a 435, how much value does that add? I'm really looking for a solid lifter tri carb. And I'm no fan of restored trailer queens, I like to DRIVE THEM!

As I type this, I'm thinking maybe I could build a 435hp and set the 390 aside. At your asking price, I could get a survior and adjust the options more to my preferences... I'm going to read thru the posting again...
