Engine stamp placement (VIN and ID)

Hello Factory Correct Restoration, it's been a long time but I am thinking about getting a Corvette again.

Just starting to look around and have some questions about engine stamps. I did the search but did not find what I am looking for.

First, I see some stamps with the VIN on the left, and some with the VIN on the right. Is this a big block vs. small block thing? Does it vary by year? Or is one correct and the other absolutely wrong?

Thank you,

BAD-L88

Welcome back! BB engine stamps had the vin on the right side of the pad where small blocks were on the left side. Good luck on your search.

Midyears are a timeless classic. Good luck on your search and make sure you buy from a trusted source.
