New Times for the 84'!

Well after getting my 383 LT1 put back together correctly I finally was able to hit the track again. It was pretty hot on Friday so I'm sure cooler air would help a bit but I'm happy for now. haha When I started running the temp was 87 and the car was heat soaked from idling waiting to go but the car ran 11.9 @ 118mph. Then my 2nd run an hour or 2 later yielded me a low 12 @ 120.7 mph. (I spun a bit in 1st gear on this run) The temps were in the low 80's at this point. The last run I got I missed 3rd but of course I had a good launch. After that the "trigger wire" came off the starter and I couldn't shut the car off without having to pop-start the car so we all left. I'm excited to see what the car will run come fall with cooler temps. All of these runs were around a 2.0 60 ft. No better than 2.0 but probably no worse than 2.3. I don't remember the specifics because I left my time slips at my buddies house so I don't have them currently.

One run a foxbody took me out of the hole and I ran him down. He gave me quite the dirty look as I waited for him to take his turn. :D (I was in the outside lane) He was running mid-upper 12's. I had fun.

383, LE1.5 heads, 3.73's, EWP, 52mm TB, bolt ons, LE cam, T-56. I have a few vids, I just have to upload them.

Just wanted to share my new times.

EDIT: Here is some video! The announcer all night seemed like a Mustang guy. Listen to him. I beat the stang but he mentions right off the bat how he beat me out of the hole. haha Sorry also because my buddy cut the video off too short.

Looking good my friend. I love seeing the old C4's throwing up some good numbers.

Full weight?

Any guesses on RWHP?

You can PM me. Just trying to figure out where mine falls in.

Yup, full weight. It should be around 400rwhp. Yea I love showing up cars/ppl that think you will be slow.

Sounds the announcer was pretty much biased.

Yea, calling it purple? Come on its CLEARLY blue. lol Maybe he is colorblind... :willy:

We listened to him all night getting pumped up when a stang would roll to the line.

120 mph should be close to 11.6 times. Good work !!

I thought I updated this thread. weird... Anyways I got some newer times for the 84' in the fall.

Had much cooler air than last time. I believe it was in the mid to upper 60's.

Best time was 11.5 @ 120mph (1.77 60') and best MPH was 11.6 @123 (1.89 60'). Started having wheel hop issues which prevented me from launching the car harder. Still she ran good so I'm happy with the times. I'm on NT05's right now, guess I need stickier tires to try to get more traction to eliminate wheel hop. (Dog bones are already poly bushings)

Few vids...

Outside view of a 11.76 @ 122 run. Little bit of wheelhop. Ran a Cobra. Spanked it.

Inside view of my 11.5 @ 120 run. Ran a modded 5th gen Camaro.

I don't think the launches are BAD BUT there is certainly room for improvement with more tire. I think street radials are as far as I'll go though. Got a 3.73 Dana 36...

Nice--Bad A$$

That's gettin' it for sure. Nice runs.

I hope I can get times like that out of my '84. I need more gear and tire though. I have a TKO600 and 3.54s (or 3.45s will find out today) and the gears run quite a bit longer than yours I believe. 50mph in 1st, 78mph in 2nd, 115 in 3rd, 150mph 4th. Good roll racing gears but need a little more gear for dig racing.

Yea you definitely have a bit longer gears. You would probably be good with 4.10's. When I go D44 I'm trying to decide if I want 3.73's again or 4.10's. I just don't know yet.

I love seeing video's like these from owners of 1984 C4's. It shows what can be done to them to make many nay sayers here piss their pants in disbelief.

I agree, many people don't believe me when I tell them it's in the mid 11's currently. When I got it inspected last year I told the inspector (guy builds engines and has a dirt and a track car) that it ran in the high 11's (at the time) and he looked at the car and said "Yeaahh right!". He seemed to stop fighting me on it once I told him it was trapping around 120. Really nice guy but seems like an old school guy who must think big blocks are the way to go to be fast.

I also LOVE spanking LS guys. Their heads are WAY TOO BIG sometimes... Talked to a couple cool guys with 5th gen Camaros with cams and other work. They were running in the low-mid 12's, I think they only talked to me because of my times.

3D-Aircrew 01-16-2019 01:52 PM

Excellently done ... way to go spanking those LS's.

:smash:

From what my buddies said the announcer didn't say much about the mustang loosing. Only that the mustang had a better reaction time and 60' or something. "Chevy's big bad-boy Corvette" Sounds like the announcer got spanked by a Vette once and he hasn't let it go. haha.

Swinging on that "347, T-top" Mustang's nuts all night. haha What made it even better is when I slowed way down to let him off first (he was on the side with the exit lane) he looked at me and gave me a glare. haha Poor ole' 347 stroker stang.
