The 81 is a one-year-only computer controlled carb. Trying to meet emissions standards. Doesn't work very well. Best bet is regular carb, but may be an emissions inspection problem. Many states are emissions-free at some point in the past. What are your states rules. Please don't say California. And if you do, say it better than Arnie does.

"All 1975 and newer cars, trucks, vans, motor homes and buses powered by gasoline, alternative fuels (such as propane) or hybrids registered within the Portland testing boundaries." The vehicle could be registered outside of the area, so it shouldn't be an issue. Is it possible to easily swap the carburetor to a regular one without issues? Also, does it not work well because it doesn't meet emissions standards or because it causes other functionality issues? |
Looks like a decent car , motor is a L81 BTW , I would not chit can the carb so fast if it runs OK .... it may be a one year only carb for a vette but that type carb was used in a ton of GM vehicles so it's not anything rare . I prefer stock so that's just my opinion . ... the four speed is a big plus

I have never seen rust like that on a brake reservoir. To have that much rust under the hood I would assume the birdcage is in horrible condition.
