Swap a C4 Digital Dash (84-89) to a newer year (90-96)?

Forum members,

Hey there, long time forum lurker here. I've been checking the for sale page for a 1989 manual transmission corvette because it's got that six speed plus the digital dash that I'm a big fan of, but I must admit there don't seem to be many of those for sale. Also, not likely for sale in my region (NYC) or price range.

That said, I'm wondering if anyone has seen or tried to swap the digital dash from the earlier c4's to a later model c4. Is there a lot of custom fabrication to get it to fit? Also ... I'm sure the inputs to the dashboards differ. I'd be really eager to hear anyone's thoughts on the effort involved here.

Thanks!

Addendum: To be clear, I'm asking about putting a digital dash from a '84 to '89 corvette in a '90 to '96 corvette, because I love the dash, and want that 6 speed manual.

Nothing is impossible but this would be VERY difficult. Your electric woudl have to be all swapped, different ECM location, dash pad, sub frames, the center console would not fit, vent tubes would not work...etc.

I'm really not sure why you would want to do it?

I understand the attraction of the "star wars dash" so buy a 89 as that is the latest version of the electronics.

I found my 89 6 speed Atari after searching nearly two years. And only a six hour drive away. And with FX3. They are out there, so be patient if thats what you want.

I assume you have not firmed up a plan, so here's another idea. Find an early C4 manual you like, then change out the tranny. Find a setup from a later C4 and swap it or get something like a Tremec 6 speed. I have an early C4 that the tranny was swapped for a Tremec 5 speed prior to my purchasing it, it works fine.

How about a 4+3 car, swap for a six speed and an LS if you want 300 hp?

I did an auto to 6 speed swap in my 89 in 1997. THEN I did the early to late dash conversion in 2001 in my 89..

If I were to do it over, not sure I would do the swap, It was a bunch of work, swapping harnesses made it much easier, although I spliced the rear harness to the 1991 dash. the 90-91 harnesses are the best due to being an L98 car, I did however use black/white controls from a 1996 in my 89..
