Thanks. I really admire the engineering that went into some of these parts. It will be a few weeks. We have a newborn now and my dissertation is keeping me busy, but I'm putting time into the project whenever I can.

Congratulations on the fresh one buddy!

Checked valve cover clearance yet?

Ill put a VC on the head tonight. They’re pretty tall so I think they’ll clear ok.

May need to grind alternator bracket a little.

I clearanced my alt bracket a few years ago for my old Katech VCs. The Comp Billet Valve Covers fit the bracket but hit the alt. So I bought a relocation bracket for the upper alt mount.

The Comp Billet valve covers clear the rockers just fine. I should hope so....they look tall when mocked on the heads! Probably less gargantuan when mounted in the engine bay.

Josh were your old heads 6 bolt? I was curious on the headers getting them in and out or removing the heads that the 4 bolts on the bottom make it a little more difficult to do those types of things. If anyone lese knows chime in.

Josh,

This is coming along nicely! Your painstaking attention to detail will pay off huge!

Yes the old heads were 6 bolt. It definitely made it hard to do things with the headers so close.

Well 650rwhp is the new 600rwhp, so I need to up my game if I want some more "Fastest Naturally Aspirated" trophies.

Those valve covers are tits. $600.00 later, I may go for a set after I get this new house remodeled......I'm wondering if you can get them with some different graphics?

There are flashier ones out there but these ones make form follow function.

Hey Josh i have been meaning to ask you this. Any concerns with feeding both piston squirters and spring squirters with factory style oil pump?

Josh B. 08-28-2018 10:43 PM

Well it's a Katech red pump, high pressure high scavenge. ZR1s use squirters just fine with a factory oil pump, and the katech is even higher pressure.

Also, the squirters alone use check valves in their bodies that shut off the squirter below 45psi. So with that knowledge, no, I'm not really concerned but I'll obviously keep my eye on it.

Interesting info Josh, is that for the Katech LS7 squirters or all? I got the Katechs and they were quite a bit more than OEM LS9s and I've been curious what I got for my money haha. Though I do trust Katech to make a good product which is why bought them.

Josh B. 08-29-2018 03:17 PM

I believe that the Katech and the stock LS9 squirters use the same check ball design (same components too?), and are regulated to the same oil pressure. I am running the Katech squirters on my ERL sleeved LSA block.

Yes, we scavenge the bolt with check valve out of an LS9 squirter to make them.

Josh, how are you doing getting your car back together?

I need to get my behind in gear. I spend some time building Hi Ram intake tubes, and a few class weekends that required me to travel quite a bit. I'll finish off the removal of the old top end and ship it off to the new owner over the next week, then start measuring for PTV clearance, etc. If all that is good to go, then assembly will be quick, measure pushrods, order them from Trend, cam timing, lash the valves, reinstall the Hi Ram. Break in oil, reset the lash, then get the car to Ryne Cunningham for a tune.
