Time to get a HF 1/4" torque wrench for your newborn. Congratulations

UNREAL; Should get you a solid 540rwhp, at 3500 RPM.

It would be weird if it didn't

Thanks. It's tuned for flex fuel and I'll run E85 about 99% of the time. It will still highway cruise on 91 octane if E85 isn't available, like when I race at Coalinga and no E85 is available and I need to make it back the 300 miles to Murrieta.

Josh have you seen those trailer hitches for an extra set of wheels and tires? I'm thinking maybe something like that but with gas cans for myself. I'm assuming you wouldn't be taking a drag pack since iirc you said you want to get a set of R888Rs on 18/19 (great minds think alike :)). I bet you could fit about 5-7 of those tall skinny gas cans on a rack like that, or even just weld up a super simple fuel cell with cart tires and a hitch and a small portable pump. But that's probably a lot more work than just taking some Torco to add to the 91.

I keep hearing mixed information on Torco, but if it truly does leaves the same rust colored residue on engine internals as every other octane booster I've seen, I wouldn't want to rely on it.

No experience with octane boosters personally (other than ethanol :D), but I wonder if since ethanol is know to clean carbon deposits off engines, if it would clean those deposits off as well? Anyone know?

I've kicked around the idea of the tiny race trailer for race events, it's a good idea for tires, tools and fuel. It wouldn't be hard at all to fab a hitch either. My issue is that I'm in cookie cutter residential housing, dreamin' Californ-aye-cation style and don't have a wide enough gate to the side of my house. I owned a car trailer for 15 years which I sold when I moved from Florida to CA. I could do one of those fold up trailers but I'd use it once a year. No easy solution to the problem of logistics at far away races. I don't plan on using the big M&H 325/45-17s for half mile racing, they are just too tall and no good for gearing/rpms. I'll be buying some R888Rs for the 18/19 sizes. I might try the front welds though if competition is close at an event, probably good for a small dividend in speed with lower mass, frontal area, rolling resistance. But those can be driven on the street without much worry, they drive nice.

Let's see if I can hit 175mph with the new goodies....

Best way to solve that is get out of the USSR.

MikeOC 07-11-2018 03:01 PM

This is the style I'm thinking about, should store a lot easier than a full trailer. The last few pics in the first post. I don't see why you couldn't do the same thing with some gas cans or a little custom fuel cell.

Right? After college we'll settle in a red state.

Doesn't clean them that well.

It does. I bought a 6 pack of it and used one can in a full tank of gas then checked the plugs at 1/2 a tank and they were covered in the rust color. I replaced the plugs, drained the tank and switched to E85. I have 5 cans of that shit taking up space in my garage now.

Interesting. Just to be clear, you mean under combustion and not surface application when disassembled right?

Yes. I still had a significant amount of carbon on my piston tops after ~7k miles of straight e85. I did not clean the pistons the first time I did the head swap and that was with 31k miles of pump gas on them. Id say it doesn't add to the carbon already built up, but also doesn't help clean it at any accelerated rate. We will see for the next time I pull the heads. I did clean the pistons this time around.

Josh B. 07-11-2018 03:42 PM

My experience with E85 has been that they aren't nearly as good at cleaning as "internet wisdom" says they are. In a big downside, Ethanol leaves a very hard to remove gum residue on the intake runners that hot tanks won't even remove. I confirmed this at WCCH. They were very happy that I cleaned all the runners in my Hi Ram before dropping it off, stating that their cleaning machines won't remove that stuff. It's an evil cross between tar, tree sap, and glue.

MikeOC 07-11-2018 03:45 PM

Oh I see jay, I was musing about whether the ethanol would clean Torco deposits and I see now you were talking about carbon.

I did notice that on my car as well but I had assumed it was because my compression was too low for ethanol to get good clean burns that would clear carbon since I was flexfuel at the time. Higher compression does get a more complete burn of ethanol and lowers exhaust particulate, but perhaps the conventional wisdom of ethanol cleaning carbon is a misnomer, and that it's just that it doesn't leave any carbon of it's own.

In unrelated news, I thought that eating Tide pods would give me a really good cleanse....they didn't. Just a trip to the ER.

in Virginia E85 is available on the military bases but I am unawhere of any nearby stations that sell it. Since you are military you probably take advantage of fuel sold on base. Btw, I spent 3 months at Camp Pendleton in early 1971 and a 2 week summer camp around 1974. I was in the local Marine reserve unit which changed over to amtracks in 1972.
