Fel Pro Oil Pan Gasket - Dart SHP
Which oil pan gasket do I use, the "thick" front seal version, or "thin"?
Dart SHP block with Kevko oil pan. Fel Pro 0S34510T (thick version) Fel Pro OS34509 (thin version) Also, what's the best way to lower the steering rack, lower it by dropping it where it attaches to the frame at the two studs, or use a pickle to split it at one of the steering bearings? Thanks! |
The gasket front thickness required is dependent on the front oil pan radius. Measure that radius first and we can go from there.

I believe anything past 1968 is the thicker gasket. Lay a straight edge on top of the pan rails and measure down to the bottom of the arc.
2 1/4" is thin seal. 2 3/8" is thick seal. Drop your draglink by removing the idler arm bracket. Two nuts, carriage bolts, drops the link far enough to remove the pan. If the pan appears hung-up on the crank, just jog the IGN key to spin the crankshaft front counterweight up out of the way. |

Thanks. I'll just pull the pan first and measure, just to be sure, though I'm almost certain it's the later style, thicker gasket for the DART block/Kevko oil pan.
Looks like a very easy job. |
An oil pan stud kit would be a wise purchase. You will wonder how you lived without it. Makes installing soooooooo much easier.
