I am questioning my intelligence....Front license plate cover
Purchased a 02 coupe that has never left New Jersey until now(always had a front license plate). I went to reinstall the license plate cover today, since I live in PA (no front plate required). I purchased two #8 X 5/8" modified truss head auto screws from Lowes today. Got home and went to screw into bottom holes and the holes are not tapped?! I am assuming that they never were from the factory? So do I just go ahead an self tap them with the purchased screws? I over analyze everything....
Thanks, |
I'd say most are self tapping holes, yes. Push while screwing in.

oops sorry misread the question

IIRC there are no holes from the factory , should be a dimple area to start the screw hole with the self tappers. |
Had to do the same thing bringing my car into PA from NY. There are dimples where the screw holes should be. I used a 1/8" drill to make the holes first - with my luck I'd probably start a split from forcing the screws in!! In my case, the screws came with the plug and they look like the same dark brown or bronze looking phillps screws used everywhere else. Nothing lined up either and required some "persuasion" to get things to go together properly. Now if I could just get the rear license plate frame thing to snap in!!! :banghead:
