Common issues with C7?

Hoping to sort of catalog common issues with these cars. Add as appropriate.

Wheels bending/breaking

*some* batteries die prematurely (I've heard this is related to the starter being too close to the exhaust)

Paint chipping - due to body panels rubbing.

I've seen a few seat back recliner levers fail/fall off

Auto transmission problems

supercharged cars overheat - not sure if this has been rectified (I've yet to hear from 2017/18/19 Z owners who take theirs on track)

brake dust - super minor

what else?

Mine is near perfect.Best car i’ve Ever owned.

Prob too soon to conclude LT issues but I’d add Mylink infotainment glitches

Haven't experienced one of those that you listed. I suspect most others haven't either though I'm sure the vocal minority will be soon to chime in.

a couple of CF members have written abt the screen going black and unresponsive randomly... usually taken care of by turning the car off and on.... it’s happened once to me in first 7k miles.

Thanks. not sure how common this is - but I've heard a few examples here and there.

sure I figured you wanted anything given you list the A8 tranny issues with the 8L90, which seem uncommon.

red62vette 07-23-2018 02:19 PM

I think you have the list:
- Auto trans
- Bent wheels on GS/Z06
- Some infotainment
- Some body panel fit/finish

I have a manual, and haven't yet encountered any of these issues in 8k miles on my GS.

No problems at all with my 2017 Stingray 2LT. It is a 'garage queen' and I have just 6,500 miles on it, though. I have driven it on some days when it is in the high 90s outside and it never runs "hot" at all. Even the A/C is more than adequate for this car - which is not what I expected.

I hope it continues to serve me well as my weekend ride!

2015 Z51/3LT m7. Battery replaced after 1.5 years. Otherwise the car has been flawless

MikeERWNC 07-23-2018 02:48 PM

Stupid silly grin every time I drive the car!
That trumps all problems I have had in 54K miles.

All cars break.

Avanti 07-23-2018 03:01 PM

One of the most persistent and endemic problems with the car is one that exacerbates all the rest... awful dealerships/service departments. :yesnod:

IRMB 07-23-2018 03:26 PM

forgot about windsheilds cracking.

This is about right, but...

For the paint issue at seams, its not from the body panels rubbing, it's from poor paint adhesion due to improper surface prep and painting conditions (as per a GM TSB) - it is believed to be rectified in cars painted in the new shop.

For the auto trans problems, many believe this is due to AFM, not the transmission itself. When the car goes into 4 cyl mode, it creates nasty vibrations that do damage to the drivetrain (which is why they revised the torque tube for the c7 to be sturdier, unfortunately they didn't make the torque converter sturdier...), this would also explain why the manual cars aren't having the problem to the same degree because they go into v4 mode far less frequently.

Major Problem with most C7's - they make Mustang owners REALLY jealous and mad they didn't buy a Vette. I looked in the manual for this, but there is no fix for it...

'17 2LT M7 Stingray - 7 months, 8000 miles including two long road trips. Overall an excellent car with no major issues.
Occasional slight vibration in the clutch and gearshift at 2000 RPM (10-20% of the time), but isn't consistent, and suspended when I took it to the dealer, of course. No codes displayed...

I bought my 'vette after trying to replace my '11 Mustang GT Premium with an '18 model to get the new tech 'n' toys, but the spec'd price was north of $50k... Ford priced themselves out of the market for me when I discovered I could get the '17 Stingray I wanted off the lot at year's end for only a couple of grand more...
Ford has my sincere thanks making their newest generation Falcon/Fairlane too expensive...

I believe the driver seat is an issue as far as left thigh area. A percentage that would be considered unacceptable. Both the competition seats and the GT seats.
