C1 TTU Track Car Project

I haven't posted in a long time, but I am getting close to finishing a very long term project that has evolved into an interesting track car. 56 Corvette with fabricated high travel, low roll suspension geometry, JRI shocks, DSE Decalink rear suspension with Hammerhead and 1250 HP axles, Tilton triple disk carbon clutch, 18 inch Forgelines (12 inch front/12.5 inch rear), motor moved back 14 inches, new 515 inch big bore/short stroke 13:1 Brodix aluminum big block, Hogan sequential intake, Daily dry sump, Motec ECU, etc. I still have a little work to do, but should get it done by the end of the year. Motor should go on the dyno in a couple of weeks. I know its a little unconventional, but it should be a blast. I currently track an ACR and an old NASA-spec series Focus - this will be way different. LOL

Wow, really cool car!
Got to love something different!

There's got to be a way you could stack a 5th accessory belt on there somehow. How about a small AC compressor to feed a coolsuit? :)

Seriously though, that's a really cool car.

.

The fifth belt is off the back of the camshaft to drive the fuel pump. LOL
Thanks

Cool car, why not STU instead?

I will run TT while I sort the car, then move on to SU. I have a buddy running TTU with a 9L Viper that I need to compete with as well.

Awesome build!!

mfain 10-10-2018 04:41 PM

Mounted Hoosier R-7s on Forgeline GA3Rs - 335 front, 345 rear. The fronts have 8.5 inch backspacing to get the scrub near zero, and the barrels and tires clear everything (control arms, tie rods, sway bar, and inside fenders) up to 30 degrees of turn and full suspension travel. A lot of custom fabrication was required.

Awesome!

Is that a kit car or a real 56?

Any projected weight?

Shooting for 2600# dry, but being realistic will probably end up closer to 2800. I saved a lot of weight with the Tilton clutch set-up and I am redoing the roof, hood, and rear deck in CF. I haven't had a chance to weigh the motor yet.

Any pics of the suspension? Very cool project.

Supercharged111 10-20-2018 09:55 PM

Sounds good on paper and that front wheel looks like it has much better geometry than factory. Hopefully this thing hauls some ass when it's all said and done.

It's a high travel/low roll suspension of my own design (Ron Sutton influenced) with 4 inches of compression and lot's of caster gain - that's the reason you see the positive camber on the inside tire (in a turn) in the earlier photo I posted. My son fabricated the CM control arms with Joe's Racing bearings and Howe ball joints. The spindles are ATS with C6 ZR1 hubs and big StopTech brakes. Shocks are JRI, R&P is Sweet Engineering, and the sway bar is a 2000# rate Speedway Engineering piece. I just removed the previous C-4-based IRS in favor of a Detroit Speed Decalink with 1250 axles/CVs which I am in the process of installing. The suspension is a little disassembled at the moment, but I have a few photos of the components that I will include. Note in the last photo (construction shot) that all of the suspension pick-up points are on "slugs" for adjustability of camber, caster, roll center, Ackermann, and anti-dive. I'll try and post some better photos of the suspension more assembled.

Wow, incredible car! We responded to your message about ABS a while ago, but never heard anything back. Let us know if we can help!

I appreciated your response. I will add one of your stand-alone ABS systems. I have just been tied up with some of the other modifications and haven't gotten around to finalizing the braking system. I have been working with my tuner on options for integrating the BMW ABS with the Motec ECU. I'll be in touch. BTW, I was impressed with your performance at COTA last month - so was my buddy Cable R. who had to compete with some of your stable with his Viper!

Thanks

Pappy
