tuning for auto transmission

There's one thing I want my vette to do differently. When you're cruising in 6th and want to down shift to say 3rd; you pop it into sport mode and hit the paddle shifter 3 times... and wait as it carefully goes through the gears. This often means the car down shifts while I'm in a turn instead of just before the turn. Is this something that can be changed with a tune? Can the car just jump to whatever gear you tell it to?

2007 base.

craigyboy 08-05-2018 01:19 PM

Yes, a tuner can speed up the gear change for you

jim2092 08-06-2018 08:00 AM

No. Start downshifting a little sooner, it cannot jump gears.

Also a tuner can not make the car shift faster. He can make it shift harder.

Uh, yeah he can. Shift times are one of the easiest things to modify in the trans tune.

Hmm... Looks like there's at least some hope then? Guess I'll just have to find a tuner and find out.

Subfloor is a tuner and he is close to you.

Can you elaborate on this? Does the stock ECU have a built in delay or something? I know tuners can change shift points, but I didn't know they could improve the speed of the shifts. I had assumed this was a limitation of the mechanical bits, and not something programmed into the computer.

Mike@DiabloSport 08-17-2018 01:11 PM

Shift speed can indeed be adjusted in the tune.
To clarify, this is the amount of time it takes to perform the actual shift, has nothing to do with the delay from when you click the paddle to when the trans 'does something'

Is holding the downshift paddle not an option to downshift to the lowest available gear in these cars?
In my charger I can simply hold the downshift paddle for a second and it automatically drops to the lowest/safe gear based on speed. Roll race special :)
I don't recall if my T43 equipped Caddy had the same option or not...

Yes, if the left (-) minus paddle is held down briefly, the transmission will downshift to the lowest gear possible for the vehicle speed. And if the paddle continues to be held down as the vehicle slows, downshifts will continue to occur as vehicle speed allows.

Typed right out of the owners manual.

Tried it. Didn't work. it just down shifted once. tried holding the left - tried the right - tried both at once. held them down for at least 5 seconds, nothing happened. Maybe this isn't a feature on an 07? They changed the firmware after 08 right?

jim2092 08-21-2018 11:27 AM

My apologies. That is a C7 feature.

Can Diablo tune change rpm shift points?

Hi, I have your Diablo tine in my 08 vette with LS3 motor. At WOT the motor cuts out (rpm limiter) before the tranny shifts. Can I change trans rpm shift points?

Mike@DiabloSport 08-29-2018 03:20 PM

Yes, you can adjust the WOT shift RPM on that application. Id suggest bumping the limiter a bit first.

Thanks

thanks for your re Mike...I'm a bit Leary about bumping the rev limiter over the rpm limit. Would rather change the tranny shift points. Is that feature of n mu Diablo tune or do I have to download it from the Ignition icon?

Mike@DiabloSport 09-05-2018 12:11 PM

Is this a stock car?
Are you asking about lowering the shift points to keep it from hitting the limiter?

If the shift points and limiters are all stock, and it hits the limiter in D on any shift, there's more likely a possible trans issue that needs to be addressed here...

Dcasole 09-15-2018 09:56 AM

Mike , I think he is waiting to long to flip the paddle causing the car to bang the revlimiter because of the delay time

While running a road course I would just anticipate the delay and bump the paddle a little sooner

when I installed my Diablo Lew Tune ...and running the 1/4 mile I just left the shifter in automatic sport and let the trans do the shifting ... it shifted right on the redline every time

Dave
