deleted 2 precats. code 32

91 l98
I installed a 3" front y pipe. no precats. Next day I get code 32.
I've done all the reading on other similar threads.

Is there any solution other than burn a chip for the ecu too turn off egr?

aklim 08-08-2018 02:16 PM

I'm wondering about how it happened. Are you sure you didn't knock something off? Those are stock manifolds which have EGR?

clove86 08-08-2018 02:51 PM

Short answer yes.
Stock manifolds. New y pipes

I've read it's common on 90-91 l98 because they are speed density and do not have the egr temp switch.
I don't want to throw parts away it.
I do have a new ac egr.
Bit I don't think it will make a difference.

Others have said they program the egr out

I hope you have a better doctor than that. I know I do.

I had the same thing on my 91. When I started freeing up my exhaust system, I started getting the code 32. After future mods I had a chip burned and had the code 32 tuned out.

Do you get the code just after startup of while driving on the highway?

It started on the highway after 10 minutes of driving

An O2 simulator may kill the CEL it screws on the end of the 02 sensor then into the head pipe.it worked on one of my rides..

Another option that may / may not work: Score an 18mm spark plug anti fouler NAPA sells them. Drill the small end of the anti fouler for the 02 probe to protrude into the head pipe,

CEL illuminates after 10 minutes drive time: While rolling neutral the trans , shut the engine off then restart the CEL may stay off.

90's are a PITA with that damn code 32.

Good luck

BTW: Tried a heated 02 still got a CEL 32.

There is a way to do this without a chip. Increase the diameter of the orifice on the EGR valve vacuum port with a drill bit. A welding torch tip drill set has tiny bits and a hand collet. Open it one size, then drive it and see if the code returns. Go one more size up if it returns

Now i like that suggestion

Isn't the EGR under the manifold? IOW, you would have to R&R the manifold several times till you get the right size, wouldn't you?

Benny42 08-13-2018 12:54 AM

Yes you probably would have to pull the plenum a time or two. I know this works, I did it to an L99 in a caprice with LT1 exhaust. Same code for the same reason. I didn’t say “the easiest way to do that is”, I said I know how to do it. 😉

On an additional note. The car is ridiculously loud. It drones really bad inside the cabin. Almost so bad that it's not enjoyable for the wife and I to Cruise in with the top on.
I'm thinking about keeping the three inch straight pipes to the converter and then putting the stock Mufflers back on, to see if that helps
on a side note the performance games are pretty great. The car is very responsive

I have strong doubts that the performance gains from exhaust alone are more than placebo effects where the mind convinces itself of some major gains. You may see a few HP increase on a dyno but the butt isn't sensitive enough to pick up that little. That is, unless the old system is FUBAR then all bets are off.
