How I solved the front license plate problem
 

Got a ticket for no front license in California. Took them 40 years to catch me but so be it. I took the standard GM grill front frame that comes with the "corvette" plate and mounted the frame as GM directed. ( By the way this all came with my C7 from GM) No drilled holes required. It just attached to the center of the front grill. Then I bent the license a little and two sided taped it over the "corvette" plate that attaches to the frame. Popped it in and done. Took it to be signed off and then removed the frame and plate with no harm done. No need to buy a fancy license plate holder and you can leave it on if you wish.

Yup...Did the same and used GM Aeroplate mount that came with my C7...

But I also have STO N SHO (below) which I prefer as its very easy to remove for shows and meets...Most of the time I keep my plate and bracket in the hatch just in case CA cop pulls me over.....

If I had to run a front plate I would prefer the GM adapter although it isn't quite street legal in some states which require the plate to be higher. That is why GM also provides an ugly plate holder that sticks on the front fascia. The GM Aero Plate solution is more elegant and fits in with the lines of the car better than any of the aftermarket solutions. I would even leave it on if I put the car in a show.

I also use the Sto-N-Sho, and vastly prefer it. It may technically not meet legal requirements for mounting height in some states, but I seriously doubt any except perhaps the most OC LEO would ever cite based upon or even be aware of that requirement. Those who enforce front plate laws just want to see a front plate.

I wonder about that. When you get it signed off the ticket is dismissed. When the cop calls in do they actually check back court records or just look for outstanding warrants and a valid license?????
Would be nice if a California LEO replied.

In Mass you get a 7 year surcharge on your insurance - same for Cali ?

Seems no front plate is a moving violation as it is in Mass - not good

Here in CA the only height restriction for the front plate is that "the front license plate shall be mounted not more than 60 inches from the ground"...

California Code, Vehicle Code - VEH § 5201

STO N SHO or Aeroplate mounts are acceptable options....

Here in CA not having a front plate is a simple fix-it ticket and is not considered a moving violation...

Its a ridiculous law in my opinion. An officer pulling you over will 90% of the time be parked behind you on the side of the road. Whatever. I'm about to buy a 2016 C7 Z51 and unfortunately the previous owner (1300 miles only) had the front plate with the OEM holder on the car. I had the dealer take it off and send me some pictures of the front end ( I'm 200 miles away) and sure enough there are horizontal lines across the front facia where the top of the holder rubbed against it. And to make matters worse the car has a clear bra on it so while on one hand its a good thing on the other clear bra's can make removing marks like this impossible. I'm going to look at the car Tuesday. I've made a deal on the car but if the front end on this car is jacked up I'm going to pass. Dumb law.

I did the same thing but took it a step further. I trimed all the excess plastic from around the plate and installed a rubber plate frame.

Yeah, As I mentioned earlier it's just a simple fix-t ticket here in CA and is not considered a moving violation, will not appear on your driving record, nor raise insurance rates...

Speaking from personal experience here in SoCal...

Heres Mass law on front plates and I think the insurance companies are and sometimes not charging points on your insurance rate which leads me to believe thats why I am not finding a definitive answer - I did get a surcharge for 7 years also got my ticket in the mail - saw the undercover state police but had no choice but to pass him and thats when he grabbed my plate number

My guess is that will change soon. With license plate readers becoming an ever important part of the nation's homeland security surveillance network, having a plate on the front and back as a requirement for more accurate pickup will become a reason to enforce more strictly. In metro DC, which includes all of MD and NoVA, it is very strictly enforced, license plate readers are everywhere, and, of course, the threat of terrorism is very high here.

It attaches under the front bumper using the stock screws. Took me 2 minutes to remove since I don't need it in FL but I was impressed by the fitment. The bracket is made of heavy gauge metal not plastic and it seem really sturdy. Since it stands off the bumper slightly it didn't damage the paint. Mounts lower then the factory option so might be better for air flow.

That's a nice option and very similar to the Sto-N-Sho concept and appearance. However, the main advantage of the SNS is the ability to reach down, pull a spring-loaded pin, and remove the plate immediately without tools or getting under the car.

Yup...enforcement all depends on where you live...

Here in Palm Springs, CA area they are pretty lenient when it comes to window tint and front plates....

I'm sure driving around LA area would be a different story....When I lived in SF about 15 years ago I did receive 2 fix-its in one year for no front plate on my old Vette and eventually put it on for good...

I current have my SHO N GO bracket installed.....

Hope it all works out for you. I just prefer to not give the LEOs any reason to stop me.
