Which year C7 Z06 is the better buy?
Hello, I have been on the forums for a long time and have owned a C6 Z06 some years ago. I'm now back and looking for a C7 Z06 with Z07 package in 7spd manual. Like many cars during the duration of the model, many times there are some years with in that production line that makes small minor upgrades which makes those years more desirable then some of the earlier years . Is this to be true for the C7-Z06? If so can you please list/post what those differences are thanks in advance.
I have found a 2016 black on black with comp seats and Carbon Ceramics for around 70k but want to make sure that this year has all the features as the others |
All the same aside from the 17+ models having some upgraded hardware for cooling purposes. So if you track your car and that's important to you, it MIGHT help with overheating issues.
|
If you get a manual it will be a 7 speed. Get 2017 or newer GM added an additional heat exchanger and taller SC lid to help with cooling. There is a post on the forum comparing the 15/16 Zo6 vs 17 and the 17 runs cooler and is much less likely to overheat.

You can look at your intake and a check engine light will pop up lol. That's how sensitive the 17+ are. 15-16 is more mod friendly. And i drive my car in the dead middle of summer, just 2 weeks ago when it was 108 degrees and 85% humidity. I was dying, but the car with the AC on full blast treated me well. Oh and the temp gauge never exceeded 220F. These cars are fine on the street. |

I would get the '16 and if you track the car, you can add the secondary radiator for basically pennies. If you don't track the car, you can get whatever year and all of them will be just as good.

And i I thought folks were adding the ported TB / upgraded air filter to 17+ w/o issues at all... I thought it was 2 mods is safe and the 3rd (like x pipe) was code prone... |

Got a link to the cheap radiator mod? What I have seen is not cheap. And i I thought folks were adding the ported TB / upgraded air filter to 17+ w/o issues at all... I thought it was 2 mods is safe and the 3rd (like x pipe) was code prone... And there are some 17 guys who do just the TB and throw a code. The 17+ is just more sensitive. They all make the same hp, all look the same, same performance etc. If anything, if you get the '19 i think it has more features in the digital gauge cluster. That's about it. Oh and more colors. So when in doubt, just get a '19. |
They have a TSB to reprogram the 17's and 18's to not pop the engine code. Not a big deal.
|
Lets also not forget a couple of small upgrades like the front cameras and the motorized pull down for the hatch on the 17 and newer Z06':thumbs:s

16 best year if you ever want to mod it.
has front cameras apple CarPlay add secondary radiator under 1k from gm and done the 17 lid and raised rear brick are good, better if you will....but once you tune it it will cost you with the engine lights etc as has been said. and 16s or 15s with secondary radiator run same temps as 17s up. with a 15 or 16 add a 2300 Maggie and best of all worlds for 5k. No check engine lights and zr1 power |

I have a 17 z06 with borla catless xpipe, bms air filter, and mamo ported TB and never had a code in 12K miles. I've heard the 17's are more sensitive so that is worth keeping in mind but it will depend on your car I guess....

I have a 15 m7. With the secondary gm radiator it runs as cool as the later models. If you don't track it you won't have any issues with any of them. I'd find the best deal as far as model year and price and pull the trigger. I love my 15 and the only reason I don't hve a zr1 is I think the c8 might be a lot better. Time will tell. Good luck with your search!

I do find it odd and a bit amusing guys dropping their '15 or '16's for a '19 model lol. Like why? Should have just gotten a ZR1. But i, like you, am waiting for the C8. Because that's going to determine whether i wait for the z06 variant of the C8, if it's even called that, or just upgrading to a manual C7 ZR1 if the C8 performance models aren't as interesting. Hurry up GM!!! |

The newer the better.

Make sure to look at the perimeter of the front fender vents for paint chips. The 19s have a slightly different vent design which reportedly prevents this chipping. Also, the 19s will have a stronger fuel pump (about 20%) and a slightly different differential that is shared with the ZR1. |
