One person died after crashing at the entrance of the Conroe airport Friday morning, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter.

The crash occurred around 6 a.m. on Airport Parkway near Airport Road.

The driver struck a concrete pillar, at the entrance of the Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport, according to reports. The driver was the only person in the vehicle.

These aren't modern cars with crash test safety ratings. I always told my wife C1/C2 Corvettes are only slightly safer than riding my Harley.

Possible that he had some sort of incident prior to the crash and that the crash may or may not have been the cause of death. That can sometimes happen as well with us older drivers, and a lot of C1 drivers fall into that "older" category. Getting to be a lot of us C2 drivers falling into that category as well . . . . .
Sorry to hear about the death in any event . . . . . .

Steering wheel/column looks to be pulled in towards the dash and over towards the driver's door from the bend the car took....not driven towards the seat and upward towards the roof, as is the norm for an old fashioned, non-rag-joint worm and sector set-up. Still, lots of hard stuff to hit, and a lot of velocity was involved to take the frame out like that. Agree driver could of had a stroke or heart attack prior to the impact. Tragic and very sad.

steering column doesn't need to hit you, you can hit it.. but, I agree that the driver could have had a medical problem; I had a uncle who was dead behind the wheel from a heart attack before crossing into the oncoming lane and hitting another car head-on.

Out of respect for the deceased, I will not speculate about the cause of the accident from a single blurry photo.
My thoughts are will his family and friends.

Really sad.

Wow, foul play is suspected. May this man rest in peace and his family given comfort and if required, justice.

More to this story obviously.

The trim on the hardtop looks like 57 trim.

A friend of mine who lives down the street from here (and owns a 61 Corvette) took this photo. No information yet, but I will post if I hear something.

:sadangel: Condolences to the family and RIP to the driver.

They call the car a replica.

Very sad to hear this as I sold him a piece of hardtop stainless which he needed to finish his top. I though he told me at the time his car was a 56 nice driver so not sure why they would come up with "kit" corvette. Very easy going fellow and a very nice person.

deejaydu 08-17-2018 11:29 PM

The news just stated that the autopsy showed that the driver was shot. The driver was 73 years old and was from the Woodlands Texas. Very sad for sure. Condolences to all of his family and friends.

Sad event. Details pending will tell the story, but unfortunately, his status will not change.
