ZR1 on Motor Trend Ignition (subscription required)

Here is the link: Ignition. Like the title says, you do need a membership to watch at this point but if you haven't done so before, you can join for free for two weeks. I am just starting to watch it but this should be a good indicator of how Jonny Lieberman feels about the car as we get closer to the release of all of the Best Driver's Car information.

**********************Update: 9/4/18 The video is now available for free!*********************************** **********

I literally just signed up to watch this. It is pretty pathetic performance w.r.t to the competitors and Lieberman is clearly very disappointed.

Having watched zr1 episode, it grabbed my attention that gt2rs also had an episode which I watched next. I then concluded that unfortunately germans will always be a step ahead of americans in this battle. No corvette will truly beat a porsche in the same class on a track.

The only porsche corvette beat is 911 Turbo s which is down on power by 200hp and costs marginally more. Pathetic.

BrunoTheMellow 08-22-2018 05:27 PM

The turbo S likely beats the zr1 in a straight line

Turbo S does beat zr1 in a straight line but zr1 beats it in big willow. But the margin it beats it with, how much turbo s costs are both not in zr1’s advantage

It feels utterly quiet here.:lurk:

Now, I certainly wish the ZR1 would have set the record but look at the cars ahead of it... not too bad a company to be in at all.

"For the money" what would you expect? There is not a car faster according to those track times under $250k. The Turbo S is about $200k.

To be fair, the ACR was 2 seconds faster, in 2015...

Seriously now? Its not about just how much those cars cost, turbo S is almost 200 hp down, is a completely compliant/refined/soft street GT car (probably THE LEAST 911 track car), and can be had for $40k more than zr1 with discounts (they dont sell well) and zr1
barely beats it.

1/4 mile time of 131 mph is also a big let down and I am only putting that one out there for those of you who say zr1 isnt meant to be a track car. Porsche is almost 10mph faster.

And was probably on pilot super sports. 720s was on corsas, not very sticky either. The Ford GT was on regular cup 2s which is way less tire than the cup 2 ZP (which is the runflat version of the cup 2R on the gt2). Take away the zr1's tire advantage and it drops another 2 seconds. These cars are just too heavy. We needed a light weight variant. Without all the unnecessary stuff. The ztk should have been barebones, light weight version. Nearly 3700 lbs is nuts. But sadly that's what sells. Most buyers are older guys that just want the flashy car and don't give a shit about cornering. Us enthusiasts will keep whining.

Well done GM! The Corvette a couple years back would of never been mentioned with the Lambos, Mclarens and High End Porsche’s. Now look at her! Those of you who OWN the car and are disappointed needs a head check. Those of you who are just disappointed needs to OWN this car. I wish I could.

Acknowledge that. ACR was a beast! Another purpose built sports car and one that would be fun to own.

If you are going to compare horsepower then you have to compare money spent. Each manufacture chose to spend money where they chose to spend it in order to make their performance car. Porsche just happened to chose to spend a lot more money than Chevrolet to make their produce their car. I am sure GM is more than qualified to improve the ZR1 and sell it at a higher price. But that is not what they chose to do.

I am not flaming any of the manufacturers. All the cars on that list are outstanding cars. But some people gripe about the quality or performance of a Corvette especially when it comes to comparisons. But money buys a lot of quality and performance. You cannot dispute that.

I would agree with that. But where do you draw the line on what type of components and systems each manufacturer chose to equip their cars with? Size and type of engine, type of transmission, type of suspension and brakes, etc. They all chose what they chose.

I'd venture to guess if they installed the type of tires that the GT2 RS is using, the 918 would probably shave at least another second or more off its time. Uber performance tires have improved a lot in the last 4 years.
