Halltech or AFE

Gents,

I know this has been hashed over in the past, but time has passed and I'd appreciate current first hand knowledge only as to which Cold Air (yes I know the factory is also cold air) system you choose and why?

Anyone have first hand HP/Torque 'before and after' results?

Thank you in advance
Bruce

Hello,

We recommend the AFE. Better fitment as well.

Contact us for pricing.

I chose the Halltech. At the time the AFE was making cars run too lean. My fitment is fine. Good results also: Blue is stock, red is Halltech, no other mods. Same dyno, similar conditions.

Are u saying that you picked up 40 HP just from a CAI ....

Z06 owners are seeing gains like that from an intake!

The results I've shown are on a 2015 Z06. Sorry, should have said that.

Does it stay connected? I ask this because I autocross and I am quite sure I am using all of the motor mount flex, in both directions, so the system needs to be able to flex.

Any other modifications along with the AFE?

I've got the Halltech and really like it a lot. It's nothing against aFe-I've never tried it. But the Halltech is great.

I just got the VARARAM, wanted to baseline my car at the track first before installing it which I did tonight

I will let you know how it runs after I install it as the weather and the DA has been pretty consistant

then I will install my CAI tune ...

Has anyone dynoed GM's new after market CAI? And it doesn't void any warranty as it is GM's creation.

They say it makes 17 hp on a Z06.

I don't think any intake does at least my dealership does not care.

yep , sorry forgot to post , so baseline stock the car ran 12 5 12.6. 1.7 60 ft , temps 85 degrees, DA 2500 , car was pulling timing , exactly how much ... I would have to graph it ...
Same temps and DA the following week ...only change 93 octane Diablo tune 12.2, car was still pulling timing

Two weeks later , same temps and DA , Vararam and Diablo CAI tune , not pulling as much timing 11.9

On an LT 1 a CAI does nothing to add HP , what it does is stop the ECM from pulling timing because of high IAT temps .... and the motor naturally responds by making more power . .

AFE for me FWIW. It also fit really good and a well made product, thank you.

Bruce0293 11-25-2018 02:51 PM

Dave,

First, thank you, appreciated.

I agree and understand about pulling timing with IAT rising. I believe the only other way the aftermarket vendors gain power is by slightly leaning the car, by tricking the MAF using a bigger intake tube, and/or placing the sensor a bit out of the middle of the air flow. In doing so it sees a slower air flow and doesn't register the extra air. It appears your apples/apples and the only change being the vararam over stock, you picked up 3th's ish,
correct?

I have tried the Holley, and it came apart at the tube/housing intersection, and Holley gave me a refund. I had an early run, so I am hoping I had some production irregularities, and they will get it sorted out. (very clean looking) I received the halltech and it sat on the radiator hoses no matter how I wiggled them to try and find some space, returned it. I have a Vararam on order, however I am torn as to whether the AFE might be a better choice?

I just read an older post where Katech tested the Vararam and Halltech with their head/cam package and the Halltech showed approx. 10hp/10 torque gain over the Vararam. One note in the post stated vararam, and the halltech and 93 octane. I can't discern if the 93 was on the halltech only. It is so hard to filter all this stuff :-)

After dragging my feet for a year, I have decided on ARH long tubes, and intake and tune. I may run like this for the coming year, and then heads and cam.

again, appreciate your feedback
Bruce
