Gumball 3000 in 2019 ZR1
 

I have secured an entry for the 2019 Gumball 3000 from Mykonos, Greece to Ibiza, Spain and plan on taking the ZR1. I know, I know, the ZR1 is not legal for sale in Europe however the Gumball Staff has researched and confirmed it can be temporarily imported and driven "through EU countries" as long as it is not registered permanently.

Does anyone have experience with temporarily importing a Corvette (or other vehicle) into Europe to drive over there and then ship back? Has anyone participated in the rally before? Very exciting and could possibly be the first customer owned ZR1 to tool around European roads!

You might want to take a look at LG's Nurburgring update thread as he details the issues they have had trying to ship the car over for the run. He got some help from list member Mikec7z so you might want to PM him. Also list member Z06Norway has experience shipping cars over to Europe.

I have shipped my car to Europe and back w/o any difficulty. It's your personal car for personal use. Good luck "driving" your car to Ibiza from Mykonos. I just call that island hopping.

Im not sure if I'm supposed to discuss it honestly. All I can say is that it changes every year and I wish it was that cheap

You might want to check out Google Maps, Mykonos and Ibiza are on opposite sides of The Med... Not sure how a 3000 mile trip over 6 days through Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy, the French Riviera, and Spain could be considered "island hopping" but ok...

I know exactly where they are. They are both islands in the Mediterranean sea, hence island hopping. One could go over water on the entire trip, or first go over land. I have driven in Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, France and Spain... and other European countries and would not recommend it in a ZR1. I have driven in Germany and that is a different story. Does Albania and Montenegro have paved roads? :) I would take one of those V6 diesel F150 4x4 over for the Gumball 3000 instead, and leave it there. Better chance of placing.

They took some of the same route in the opposite direction in 2016 or 2017 and had full police escort for a lot including all of Albania border to border. Wont be going through Macedonia or Serbia and the drive along the Croatian coast has been described as some of the best driving roads on earth. Having watched videos of participants through all of these countries I am not concerned about the car or safety. If a Bugatti Chiron and McLaren P1 can make it the ole Chevy will be just fine. :thumbs:

Thanks for the well wishes, It will certainly be an unforgettable adventure. Yes, each car is required to have a co-driver for safety reasons, etc. My dad is joining me in celebration of my 30th and his 60th birthdays. We were originally going to take his Ferrari Portofino but since we more or less have confirmed the ZR1 can be legalized we plan on taking my car.

Going through those places I would remove the front bill it seems it would get ruined. Or take a old C6 Roads maybe be bad in some places.

Removing the splitter or taking a C6 would sort of defeat the purpose of going honestly. The rally is about the finest cars on earth traveling together through different countries, scenic landscapes, exotic cities (Mykonos, Venice, Monaco, Ibiza, etc.). Obviously taking a high profile/expensive car has its risks but thats just part of it. If the splitter gets ripped off, oh well, casualty of the rally lol. Hopefully she does us all proud and makes it through in one piece. I know I will be doing all in my power to make that happen.

The first sea that I ever saw in my childhood was the Adriatic sea along the Croatian coast. Its beauty 50 years later is still burned into my memory. My daughter swears by the Amalfi coast, but what does she know? :) I never had the chance for a trip like this with my father, you're a lucky man!

What a fun event to do......I have the required driving talent but not the liver capacity to keep up with this party crowd. How these guys get up every morning after the parties they have every night is beyond me. I guess if you never go to bed you don't have to worry about getting up, lol.
