Steering wheel position sensor......

As the '97-2000 C5 SWPS has been discontinued, does anyone know if the Cadillac SWP sensor will interface/Is adaptable to the 97-2000 C5 models? I'm guessing its a "NO", but it's worth asking.

No from everything I've read and I read ALOT

Thx-was hoping the XLR SWPS may possibly cross over, but they were like, what, 2005 and newer....

Yeah, they are different

Why are you changing it? Code?? You can clean the sensor by turning the steering wheel to the left and right about 50 times. We used to do this at the dealer I worked at. Raise the front tires off the ground, start the car and turn the steering wheel lock to lock about 50 times. This should clean up the sensor for you.

how does that actually clean it? And what issue did u correct by doing this? Codes?

can't remember the specific code, however, turning from lock to lock about 50 times works the sensor and the codes usually went away. turning the steering wheel that many times in its complete travel "cleans" the sensor. I've done this many times. It is exactly like the srs codes we used to get on all gm cars and venture vans. high resistance. we used to plug and unplug the srs connector under the front seats and the srs codes went away. we think the connectors for srs that are on the floor are picking up moisture and corroding the terminals

ok, if mine ever throws codes it does not hurt to try your method..I have heard others had success trying things that seem to stop the error codes...thanks for the info

It won't hurt to try this. It's better than having to take the steering column out of the car.
