Begining the hunt

After 17 years as a C2 owner, I sold the old girl yesterday.
Now the hunt begins for a 91-95 ZR1.
I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions. Luckily, I have a ZR1 owner living nearby.

Time to release the hounds.......

Been to the ZR1.net site. Only a few cars listed, none of which peaked my interest or wallet.
Don't want Red (any shade), which there are a lot...….or Yellow or Purple,
Looking for Steel Blue, Admiral Blue, Polo Green, White.
No Red or Black interiors (I like light interiors) Silver, White, Saddle
I know I'm significantly limiting myself, but I'm in no rush.

I have a line on a couple, just need to start the process.....

Thanks and best of luck in your search!!!
Marty

Yeah, hold out for what you want. There seem to plenty of Z's out there, and your color combo will turn up.

Good luck with the search.

Sometimes the search is a big part of the fun of owning one of these cars. There currently is a low mileage white '95 on eBay, although it has a black interior. It is a one owner car, but appears to be a very nice piece. Good luck with your search, I hope you become an owner soon. There also is a current thread going where I guy has a white with red interior car for sale that belonged to his dad.

Budget is not a problem. The prices are all over the place, from $9K basket cases to $70K prima donna's.
I'm looking in the 20's, with the higher prices for the better car and/or less miles.
More stock than not, but if all the porting work has been done, that's a plus.

Just be careful of the ultra low mile cars. Bringing them out of hibernation may require a few $k.

ZR1Bob 09-15-2018 12:51 PM

After I sold my Quasar 93 I twitched for several years then started a search in earnest for a new one. Ever since I got into the ZR-1 world back in 1993, I have preferred the 93-95 cars for a couple of reasons including, rarity (only 448 made each year), higher horsepower and for the fact that towards the end of a model run GM tends to fix and improve little things on the earlier cars. Personal choice though. I Loved my 93 but focused on getting a '95, to have one of the last produced. My search took almost a year but I ended up with one that I liked, did the deal, brought the car to Marc Haibeck as soon as I got it for a thorough going over, fluids changed and a few minor mods like a 4.10 gear, Corsa exhaust and Hurst short shifter. My initial purchase price was $27k for the car but it was a two top, 20,000 mile car in a color I liked (Polo/Beige) owned by the same second owner guy for 15 years. While in this case I did not end up doing so, I strongly recommend buying one from a member of this forum or the ZR-1 Net Registry. Look in the cars for sale section of both. Good luck--Bob

On the early cars,90-92 the injectors are junk and will need to be replaced. For early $20s on up you will have no problem finding and very nice low mileage car.

Yes, since most ZR-1’s are basically the same, all options included, the main choice then becomes color. One thing, most of those Polo Greens I’ve seen have a lot of clear coat fading.

cv67 09-16-2018 01:55 PM

20s can get you one hell of a nice lower mi Z hold out and dont compromise.
Rarity doesnt mean anything, not like the public is scrambling to buy these..take your time.
Lots of fun driving something non mainstream. Some very quick ones here on this board.

I did not have that problem on my '95 Polo car, however there was a fair amount of swirling from 20-odd years of polishing, and a fair number of small stone chips on the front, hood and sides. So at one point I got a local detail company to do a complete "paint correction", in which two guys worked for six hours one March day in 2014 in my heated garage, carefully polishing the car (after I had done some Dr. Color Chip paint touch up to cover up all the little stone chips). The car looked beautiful afterwards; at shows people were amazed that I hadn't had the car repainted. The detailers said the 90s Corvettes had very hard paint. As I recall, the cost was around $450 or so not counting the Dr. Color Chip kit (small one was plenty--about $40). Here are a few pics--Bob

Try Conti corvette i believe he must broker ZR1, he has plenty of leads. The rest are hit or miss. I did work for a car broker and he would have the check in the sellers hands and a truck ready to pick up the vehicle in a few hours. He would give the seller the price he was willing to pay and if they did not agree go on to the next car. In his home 3 car garage he has 6 vette a 63,two 67,and three ZR1 he stole price wise. Thats is part of your competition out there ,the good cars are gone in days. THe computer is the way of the future.for buiying the great cars.

Good cars gone in days, not even close, these cars never go in days unless it’s at a give away price. The OP is in the position to buy a the car he wants, just keep looking and spend a little time and get the car he wants with no comprises. If I were to replace my 91 there’s a Black-White 92 with under 1000 miles I’d give the owner pretty much what he wanted. Even though I don’t like the 92 dash this is the car I’d wait for but my 91s not going anywhere for awhile. Ever since I bought this bike I haven’t been able to get my car out of the garage but plan on driving it some this weekend,if it will start.
