The things you learn at shows...

This weekend my 65 fuel injected coupe was in local show. Great show, lots of great cars and nice people...then there was "that guy". I'm standing behind the car and this know-it-all walks down a row a Corvettes with his friend, pontificating about them all. He walks up to my car, looks in the engine compartment, notices its different from all the carburated ones and pronounces to his friend, in very authoritative and dismissive tone, that "that one's got a blower...certainly not original, that guy's ruined the car."

I just smiled. But, now I'm very upset, I just don't know what to do with this piece of crap car....

Just be glad he didn't tell his buddy that you ruined a SWC.

:D

Pretty car by the way.

Vettrocious 09-17-2018 05:44 AM

Thanks,

I'll tell ya, sawing that bar out of the back window was tough....

FLYNAVY30 09-17-2018 06:26 AM

Stunning car!

DansYellow66 09-17-2018 07:08 AM

Should have asked him if he could tell you what was driving (spinning) the blower?

RatDog 09-17-2018 07:39 AM

Life would be so much less enjoyable and fun without people like that.

I heard one judge remark to another at one of these judged "show and shine" award cruise ins for any brand of classic car that my 61s dual quads looked nice but they weren't available from the factory. I just smiled to myself. I'm long past the popularity award business...

I've had people ask me if my 65 is a split window.
BTW Very nice car.

Heck, so do I -- even with these license plates front and back (UGH!)

I think that guy is on to something.

I had my FI '60 at a show and shine a few years ago. A couple of High School Harry's walked over to inspect it and one of them asked the other, "What's that?" The second HSH looked over and sniffed, "Oh, that's a supercharger".

Stunning example of a blower car.

No, I think they are the fun; I could always use something to laugh at.

Me too. You got to remember that a lot of these people are younger and their Vette era cars were C4 and C5.
Or, they just aren't car people. Or, they are trying to impress their girlfriend.

MaineDoc 09-17-2018 09:11 AM

I can top that. I'm out in my 66 convertible and some young chicks in the next car are clearly excited about my car-or maybe it was the handsome 75 year old guy driving. All was fine until they yelled over "Nice Thunderbird" and they meant it.

Just have to laugh at the stupidity. I'll bet they're subject matter experts on many other things as well.

None the less, your car is stunning!

I don't know why its a surprise when the younger crowd doesn't recognize the old "doghouse" Rochester F/I.....its a far cry from the aircraft carrier-sized plastic rail covers hiding modern fuel injection systems...

bj1k 09-17-2018 09:35 AM

He was trying to look like the pro in front of his pal. You should have called him on it and made him look like the fool that he is .

Vettrocious 09-17-2018 09:35 AM

This was just a fun event, no absurd cleanliness, no trophies or anything. I like those.

We also had the guy who put one hand on the paint on each side of the window, so he could support his fat *** when he leaned into the car to get a better look...it was harder to smile at that....

I've said it many times on this forum . . . one of the most enjoyable things about car shows, and Corvette shows in particular, is these know-it-alls walking around with their girlfriends or buddies trying to impress them with their vast store of automotive knowledge. They are hilarious to listen to, but I rarely try to correct them any more - I just nod and smile and tell them to enjoy the show. Some of them like to play "Did you know?" with you to show you that they know more about your car than you do. This sometimes does require you to burst their balloon. No, your father didn't own one of the "rare steel-bodied ones." No, your buddy in high school didn't own a C1 that came with a big-block from the factory (and could do an "easy" 200 mph). And no, your clapped-out 1988 Mustang could not "Kick any Corvette's ass." Enjoy the show, kid. Move along.
