I'm not going to get much work done this week!
ZR1:
https://www.motortrend.com/news/chev...car-contender/

Huracan Performante:
https://www.motortrend.com/news/lamb...car-contender/

Here are the other two contenders that were revealed today (I didn't think they should really be in the same post as the ZR1 and Performante)

Sounds like the ZR1 is a handful and then some. I think people tracking these at a fast pace will likely want to switch to Hoosiers or full slick right away.

Looks like they are documenting the whole thing on video more than ever this year. This wasn't working when I originally posted but it is live now. They are making a good case to subscribe lately!

A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to drive a McLaren P1 and unless you are judicious with throttle application you will kill yourself. At full throttle you will chirp the rear tires in the 1st 4 gears. The rear tires are a narrow 315 and believe me the rear tires are completely overwhelmed by the power. These cars actually require some driver skill and other than Randy there's not much there at MT. NEXT

I didn't think much of the articles commentary, the merely quick mortals couldn't seem to handle some good ol' american horsepower and torque. Calling the ZR1 IGLOO cooler with 755hp

Yup they were totally dismissive and continue to be juvenile in their commentary. I learn more from Poor-Sha's head to head races on the track with 720s' and other high performance cars than I do listening to Johnny and his merry band of clowns. This magazine is however great fodder for trolls.

:toetap: I'll go by the reviews by Drivers on here....................

After watching and reading everything that was released today, it is safe to say that that the ZR1 isn't going to be crowned "Best Driver's Car" and according to this quote, Randy Pobst reckons that with five days and 10 sets of tires he could shave another second-plus off his lap time. But that would still leave the Corvette 1.5 seconds off the pace of our current leaders." we won't be able to hang our hats on having the best lap time either. Once again, I think GM really hurt their chances (especially in this test where it really comes down to driver feel and how fun a car is to drive) by sending the auto which was the main source of their ridicule, along with difficulty in keeping the tires from spinning at slow speeds.
Still an amazing car that put down a time that wasn't what we all were hoping for but still very impressive (1:32.46 vs MT's times for the Viper ACR: 1:31.58 (1:28.65 in a private test), Viper TA: 1:33.62, C6 ZR1: 1:33.7, ZL1 1LE: 1:34.3, C7 GS: 1:35.62, C7 Z06: 1:33.05, 488 GTB: 1:31.68, Performante: 1:30.0, 911 Turbo S; 1:33.21, and we will see about the GT2 RS and 720S this week).
It is still the car in this test that I want because of the ability to have it with 3 pedals and comfortably live with it every day at a semi-attainable price point.

Thanks for the links.

That being said it reminds me of why I stopped subscribing to MT. They are so myopic that they miss the big picture when it comes to understanding cars. They focus on the flash and bang, the "trend" which by definition is fleeting in its relevance to the consumer. I expect that this won't be an actual "Best Driver's Car" any more than their "Car of the Year" is the best car available that year.

Questar 09-17-2018 05:38 PM

My opinion of MY car isn’t going to change because of what some magazine article or some media paid driver tells me THEY think. These are opinions, based on personal bias and who knows what other influences.

i liked my car BEFORE they did their “test”. I still like it. Their “tests” change nothing.

remember the goal of the magazine is to sell magazines and advertising... the goal of the writers is to earn money from their articles. Everyone has an agenda... often truth and fairness suffer. We will never know for sure. But I don’t care.

Love my car. End of story.

I always think it is funny that when a new car comes out all they have is praise. Then after it has been out for a while they start to give their real opinions and in this case it didn't go so well for the ZR1. This is why I never believe any review of a car until it has been around the block a time or two.

Many of us have had ours around the block a time or two. No magazine is changing my opinion. Or that of any one else except the MT Kool aide drinkers.

My thoughts summed up by 'the Professor'....."It is still the car in this test that I want because of the ability to have it with 3 pedals and comfortably live with it every day at a semi-attainable price point.

I wonder if it’s a coincidence that Carlos Lagos(former MT employee) posted a picture of the same ZR1 quoting 1.24g cornering but still everyday livability on Instagram the same day MT posted their video.

Indeed and you just have to love the auto press that rips a ZR1 but slobbers over a 4 cylinder Cayman S for $100,000.

Because it’s not faster but is better.

They should have tested the manual car like they did for z06. Doesnt the gear ratios cause auto to maintain a tail happy rev band causing twitcheness?
