Bad Parent or Cool Dad? Taking my 2 year old in my C3
Not sure if taking my son out for a ride or to a show is a good or bad idea. I research the law and believe it’s legal to put a car seat in my C3. My wife thinks it’s fine, but she comes from a “car family” and rode around when she was younger. I did a “poll” at a recent event at my kids school- and I think the consensus was that I would be crazy to do this and might get a ticket? thoughts? Advice? https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...c767cd631.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...5b3d2ffb5.jpeg |
Cool Dad!!

In IL it's definitely not against the law. Plus my guess is that you'd be driving pretty defensively as you'd have two precious cargos in your possession.

Not against in the law in Iowa either, you get the cool dad vote here. |
Cool dad.

Cool Dad. I take my Granddaughter in mine every chance I get.

If under 2, I think it’s against the law... http://www.foxnews.com/health/2018/0...-law-says.html OP says kid is 2... I think he should check state laws rather than asking other parents. |
No back seat cars and pickups obviously with just one seat it is legal, seems inconvenient to strap them to the roof anyways to me...

For Vettebuyer6369 (for some reason I couldn't quote you). Correct in that if the child is under 2, he must be in a rear facing carrier. Based on the thread title, I'm assuming the child is 2 and not under 2.
Here's the appropriate part of the statute: When any person is transporting a child in this State under the age of 8 years in a non-commercial motor vehicle of the first division, any truck or truck tractor that is equipped with seat safety belts, any other motor vehicle of the second division with a gross vehicle weight rating of 9,000 pounds or less, or a recreational vehicle on the roadways, streets or highways of this State, such person shall be responsible for providing for the protection of such child by properly securing him or her in an appropriate child restraint system. The parent or legal guardian of a child under the age of 8 years shall provide a child restraint system to any person who transports his or her child. When any person is transporting a child in this State who is under the age of 2 years in a motor vehicle of the first division or motor vehicle of the second division weighing 9,000 pounds or less, he or she shall be responsible for properly securing the child in a rear-facing child restraint system, unless the child weighs 40 or more pounds or is 40 or more inches tall. |
Remember, rear facing child seats were designed to keep children away from air-bag deployment, our C3 has no air bag,,, their for, follow the age and weight guidelines on the seat and local laws, and you'll be law abiding , :yesnod:

I think people ask the wrong people when it pertains to laws that vary between states. You can usually find it online in the statutes, but sometimes you still need to call State Police for clarification. |
Check this out,,, it just now showed in my emails,,,, it is a topic of consern,,, have fun, and be safe,

When my two boys were young I used to drive both of them around at the same time. My 3 year old would sit on the e-brake cover and my 7 year old would be in the passenger seat.
It's not like I'd drive on the interstate in traffic. This was fun times on country roads with no traffic. Screw these nanny state laws. They are for people that need to be told what to do and what is safe or not. Very Cool Dad - keep it up. |

The kid is perfectly safe in a belted car seat made for his age and size. No air bag to deploy. I can't believe folks even think twice about this being safe!
Is it legal? Who cares? I wouldn't live in any state that would outlaw such a thing. When did everybody get so scared of the CHANCE of being harmed??? [Can you spell Milquetoast?] |
Cool dad. Somehow, we all survived WITHOUT child seats at all! OMG! The horror! How did THAT happen?!
Yeah, our cars had seat belts, but we NEVER used them back then. |
