Air filter replacement

It looks like its time to replace the C7 air filter. I have used K & N for years on all my vehicles, but it has fouled the Air Mass Sensor on my C6 . Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks

Get a BMS air filter.

Unless you have other mods and spend a lot of time near WOT on a track, the OEM filter is all you need. Don't fall for the snake oil claims of aftermarket ones.

Absolutely!

Yep, OEM is just fine.

I just changed my filter myself on my Z51. Put an OEM filter in. I am happy with the performance of an OEM filter. You might pick up a few extra hp with a K&N but you won't notice on the street. I don't track my car so no need to upgrade. You should know that the days of changing an air filter by unscrewing the wing nut are long gone. Especially for the C7. Need to take apart some hardware to gain access. I attached a video below if your not familiar.

Silly question - the ACDelco A3191C is the filter for Z51s and non Z51s - correct? Its in the manual, but I want to make sure Im not misreading or looking at a "THIS IS FOR NON-Z51" type of data... Its about $59 on Amazon - does that sound right?

Do you notice much difference and what is their replacement interval.

Sounds right. $59 is the going rate. Expensive. I believe it is also the same for the Z06. I read somewere that the air box is common to the Z06 so it moves a lot of air.

The prices I've seen are all over the map, as high as $70.00
But there's a seller on the big auction site selling them... Air Filter ACDelco Pro A3191C
Free shipping w/ Buy It Now for $37.99 :auto:

You can also get a Wix . It's about $50 too, but likely better than the OEM filter. For air filters, less restriction = less filtration, so I don't like to make that trade off by using something like a K&N. Their claims of 10-15 HP are complete BS anyway. The only time I use them is if I need a custom dimension, like I did when building my Cobra.

Sixgun95 09-25-2018 02:16 AM

How often are you supposed to change it?

WelderGuy 09-25-2018 03:33 AM

Thanks to fuel injection and the mass flow sensor, for 95% of drivers changing the air filter is...

Never had a problem with the K & N filter in my 2007 Z06. No problems either with the CAI in my 2016 Z06.

OEM, others have reported sensor problems and/or fault codes with non OEM filters.

:iagree: I added an oil cotton aFe filter system to my 2014 Z51. It is larger and comes with a larger housing. I have used oiled cotton K&N for years on many cars including Vettes. I have had zero problems with the MAF. BUT you have to oil it properly. The aFe comes oiled but you can't feel the oil. When you clean and reoil, you should NOT be able to feel oil. Takes longer BUT I do it as directed with a minimum amount of oll initially only on the outside ridges and wait to see if the color soaks into the whole filter. After a few hours you can see where it did not soak in and add a few drops where needed!

I removed the aFe system from my 2014 when i sold it. Cleaned and reoiled the filter and it has been operating fine in my Grand Sport for 18 months. Love that sucking intake sound at WOT!

The aFe uses a larger filter and filter housing, see pic of make in US aFe filter and made in Thailand OEM from GM!

I've had a K&N in my 2017 GS since the 500 mile change...about 5,000 miles now...no issues.
I agree, no real benefit either - old habits die hard.
But I am going to the track Friday so, who knows.
At next oil change I'll probably have them put back the OEM because the tech wont be able to properly clean/dry and re-oil the K&N all at the same time. Then it will be back to the K&N at the next change, etc. , etc.

... $17?

I went with Attack Blue. Dry media that’s washable. Larger than OEM. So far so good...
