My other car turns 50, so I made a video

It's got an L36 427, so it's not entirely non-Corvette, if that helps. Long story short, my car (a 1969 Pontiac 2+2) was built on October 4, 1968 and my Dad brought it home as his first new car. 16 years later I learned to drive in it, and it became my first car. Met my wife, who was my A&W carhop, in it. I still have it, and the car turns 50 years old in a week or so. The car's had the same 3-digit license plate for 50 years as well since I've been renewing the one my Dad (who's long since passed away) got in 1969.

Being retired I've got some spare time and a video camera, so I figured I'd make a YouTube video like all the cool kids do these days. I'm not brave enough to post it in CFOT this time but figured I'd share it here if you'll pardon the distraction. It's parked nose to nose with my '15 Z06 but it's out of frame!

Anyway, if you do like the video, please consider giving it a thumbs-up and maybe subscribing if you want to see the followup video. Apparently, on YouTube the big things that matter for new videos and new channels are the likes, subscribe (bell icon), and whether people watch it all the way through. But I'm no PewDeePie (apparently, the Big Cheese of YouTube according to my kids).

You've got to do "something" so besides being nostalgic I convert the Holley EFI to progressive linkage while I"m at it... but that's only about the middle 3 minutes of it, then back to more entertaining nonsense.

Cheers,
Dave

PS: Click on the [ ] box in the bottom right of the video to get a bigger picture. It's also in HD and 4K if you pick that!

Since I don't explain it in the video, in brief: the car was built in the Oshawa, Ontario assembly plant. That means they built it on a "unified" chassis that was shared with the Impala SS427 (I checked, same frame part number even). So the top option became the 427 "Pontiac Astro Jet" which is really just the Corvette L36 427/390. But it's all branded Pontiac. It's a fair bit lighter and shorter than a US Bonneville. It uses a Catalina rear clip, custom Pontiac doors hood and fenders, and then Bonneville grille and so on. There's a Hemmings magazine article on the car the explains it if you google "1969 Pontiac Mix and Match" you'll find it!

Would love to see more of the cool car!

Please post some pics inside and out.

Thanks! Hemmings has a photo gallery from the feature they did on the car a while back, you can find it here:
https://www.hemmings.com/magazine/mu...e/3750916.html

It had the wrong rear springs when those photos were taken though, I've since dropped the rear to "level" ride height.

If it's locked down that you can't get in let me know and I'll just post a few pics!

Your video is a LOT better than the "cool" kids.

Read the article on your car in Hemmings Muscle Machines awhile back. Truly a neat and very special car!

Thanks all, I appreciate the feedback! I took the (helpful) suggestions from my first pass and tried to incorporate them into this one. I'd imagine the production qualities get a little better each time as you learn!

I love it! I have always been a fan of the less common cars and yours is fantastic with a great story!

Today's the day! Here's a copy of the GM doc for the car (below).
