Installing brakes on neighbors vehicle
 

Hello. My neighbor wants me to change his brakes on his 2015 Ram Big horn I believe. What does the forum believe is a fair price to charge him? He is buying the pads and rotors. Working on it in my garage.

I do "favors" for many of my neighbors, once you start charging, you own it. Tell him to buy you a case of your favorite beer instead.

well what kind of neighbor is he... is he going to try to run over you or is he a good guy.

good guy price is a six pack.... why make enemies when you can make friends.
run over you neighbor... you charge so much he would rather just take it to a dealer... $200/hr labor 2hrs min

Just can't imagine charging a neighbor or friend for my time unless I owned a business. And if I owned a business wouldn't be online asking people I don't know what to charge.

If the neighbor is a friend make him help and buy the pizza and beer. If he is just a neighbor that wants to be your friend when he needs something don’t touch it or quote high enough that he takes it to a shop.
The guy across the way from me came over a few months back and wanted me to diagnosis/ repair his car to pass emissions, it failed and the check engine light is on. He has never offered to help me with anything. I told him I could absolutely fix and repair the problem, the initial diagnosis would run him $100 and I would give him a quote from the repair from there. He hasn’t been back to ask about it again.

I did this type of work for a living for almost 40 years and my time, experience and tools were never free.
