I’m very jealous. Care to give some details on the motor?

Lets see,
2 bolt 1 pc. rear seal block with ARP main cap studs
SCAT 9000 series stroker crank
6" forged rods
Keith Black pistons
NICE balance job on the rotating assembly
Comp Cam 268 XFI HR13 cam
AFR #1040 heads
Superram Intake on an Edelbrock 3860 intake
There are yet other things that will be needed: 32 lb injectors, 1.6 ratio rockers, push rods, a Canton oil pan, valve covers, gaskets and a slew of bolts. I've got a new Melrose header system to bolt on
I'm sure I'm missing something....

Your going to love the torque of the Super Ram and 383 combo.

That's going to be a whole lot of fun. I am a little surprised on a 268 cam for a 383 though. It'll be bat $#it crazy from the light with that. (Tire roasting for days lol) Then again, I'm sure you're shooting for a street machine with him, so I guess that makes a bit more sense. I ain't an expert, so I'll trust his judgment on this lol.

We are shooting for a street machine and one that has to go through DEQ.

Gotcha, the emissions are rough. Still going to be a strong performer though.

At some point my wife and I will be moving to eastern Oregon. No DEQ on the car there...and no rush hour traffic!

The machine shop ran out of brass freeze plugs, so I should get those in the next couple days. And I will degree the cam next. But it went together nicely so far.

I'm running a similar combo, although mine is a lot less nice and my cam is too small. That looks like it'll be a blast! Do you know what compression ratio and quench you'll be running?

The cam timing was right on the money, spot on perfect.
The quench is .046, and compression is 10.84

Really good quench, a high Dynamic compression ratio as well I'd guess? I imagine this will probably have to run premium no? Just curious is all. The high dynamic makes the throttle response snappy doesn't it? And do comp's cams generally degree about right?

That cam will run hard in that 383. Did an identical one in a buddys 70 nova. It still sounded good drove it to work and would rip off 12.30-40s all day.

Yeah, this should be really responsive. It will need premium. The problems I find if the cam timing is too far off when degreeing the cam, is usually a problem with the timing chain set more than the cam itself.

As with all your others, it looks like a terrific build, Jim. That thing will scorch. When I had a SuperRam on my past 383 it was a great street/strip combo.
