Fog Light grill covers for cooling
 
What are some solutions for removing the fog light and putting a trans/oil cooler behind them? Ive seen people just use mesh to cover the opening but wanting something more "elegant" than chicken wire lol.

Or is there any where else to mount a B&M cooler with fan that would be effective?

The foglight openings on the C6 aren't the best place if you are wanting airflow. At speed the air is just being pushed around those holes. But if you have a fan then it isn't going to make much of a difference since the fan should be providing the air flow. There is a good amount of room back there.

Outside of some type of wire mush (which also is hurting the airflow going through the hole) you would want some type of funnel to grab whatever air it can to push it through to the cooler.

You may want to venture into the Autocross/Track section of the forums and search around. There are lots of set-ups to choose from.

-behind the fog light opening is the perfect place for the B&M Hi-Tech cooler with fan.some cars may not get the transmission warm enough at times with the fan on.mine is thermostatically controlled and has switch to turn off fan when transmission fluid is not warm enough.I use aluminium screening that is painted black in the opening.the aluminium forms perfectly to the opening and looks much better than the driver light when installed in my opinion.7 hour drive to track last Friday in 70 degree ambient I was seeing 146F for trany on DIC.I don't use the rad for trany cooling,B&M cooler only

The fog lights are a low pressure area and will not receive adequate air-flow to cool anything at all without proper help. You will need to add some kind of scoops to properly direct airflow into the fog light inlets.

Either way should work.

Black mesh can be made to look good if installed nicely. I have a cooler behind each fog light and they do an amazing job.

The people saying they don't have never done it. A typical internet issue !

Do you have the foglight removed? Also do you have a cooler on each side or just one?

Please post some pictures so i can see the setup!

You should also put venting into the wheel liner behind the coolers to let air flow through better. Works perfectly.

You created a vacuum that way, thus making the fog lights a bit more effective, but not ideal. Fenders tend to build up pressure (hence why track/race cars have fender vents), so naturally venting them into the wheel well will give that pressure an out, increasing airflow. Not ideal, but it works. If you plan on doing HPDEs, do it right and scoop + vent. If you plan on just drag racing, canuks way works fine.

I have a B&M transmission cooler mounted in front passenger side in front of radiator. I can take a pic when I get home if you want to see where. Did not interfere with radiator cooling. I had some high transmission temps and went into limp mode a couple of sessions, but never did again after I added the cooler.

That is an excellent question. I honestly have no idea, but I would think it would be about the same as having the vent behind the cooler into the wheel well in terms of airflow through the cooler itself. Air flow being what it is, unless you used a naca duct or some other form of ducting to direct the air from the foglight through the cooler with no other path around the cooler, the air would take the path of least resistance and go straight out of the fender vent. While not ideal, opening the fog lights and the front of the wheel well liner or fender with a cooler in between is better than nothing.

Having just the fog light removed and a cooler put in would do very little but add to the build up of pressure within the fender itself: BAD

Same with a fender vent, only the extraction of air is more efficient than a wheel well vent due to suction of air by volume across the top of the fender: GOOD

Ideally, having a scoop around the fog light to redirect air into a naca duct that forces the airs path through the cooler and into the fender to be ejected through a fender vent is the best setup, but that requires a lot of work: BEST
Probably best reserved for those most hardcore of race/time-attack cars. Definitely overkill for drag racing and autocross.
