New Alpine Head Unit & Speakers

Well I finally took out the stock radio (6 disc) and upgraded.
I installed a Alpine ilx-207 head unit, JBL center speaker, JL front door speakers, Polk rear speakers and a BOYO back up camera. I had the bose system so I kept the stock subs in the doors and the amp. I purchased everything from Crutchfeild as I have in the past. They are great for us do it yourselfers, customer service is top notch. I have included pics of what I installed. So far I love the upgrade. Head unit is f***ing awsome. I can play music from any app including my SiriusXM app which saved me money from having to by the Sirius receiver and the subscription. Has tons of features most of which I will probably never use or even know I have.....lol The sound difference is great for only replacing stock components with no amp. The only thing I don't care for is the back up camera. The quality of the picture sucks. So if you thinking of doing a back up camera don't get this one! I also took out the cigarette lighter in the ashtray and installed the USB port in its place. The glue dried instantly so don't bust my balls it's a little crooked. I have OCD so I don't think I can keep it that way long. I also did the crux unit to the head unit to keep the emergency tones. You do lose all other tones, say from your traction control etc. Not really a big deal to me. I always thought the tones were to loud anyway. The emergency tones are much lower now even though I have the volume all the way up. I spent about $1000.00 delivered to my door in one day. That included them doing all the radio terminations from the crux unit to the head unit. Plus I bought some plastic door panel tools and some speaker connectors. Just thought I would share in case anybody else has been thinking about doing the same thing. The main reason I did it was for bluetooth capabilities. Because in 06 it wasn't offered.

Setup looks great! any plans to add an (Amp)s in the future?

C6Z06Silverbullet 10-06-2018 08:07 PM

Nah, surprisingly it's pretty loud. I really would have liked to have upgraded the subs in the front doors but nobody make a direct replacement. Didn't feel like customizing it that much. Years ago yes.....lol

I think the slightly turned usb connection is perfect. It is turned that way for the convenience of the driver! Just keep telling yourself that.

Might just live with it. Time will tell. To fresh I gotta let it settle for a bit.

Nice setup!
So how does the sound quality compare to the stock bose considering you have no amp? Better quality? Louder?
How long did the install take?
I'm planning on doing this mod in the winter when I have two feet of snow outside

Thanks, sound quality is louder and much more crisp then the stock set up, big time difference. There is an amp and subs but it is the stock Bose amp and subs. I didn't want to yank everything out and start doing custom subs and amps. I would have replaced the subs but no one makes a direct replacement without customizing the doors. The install took me over two days so between the both I would say 6 to 8 hours total between both days. I'm sure guys could get it done faster but I'm very meticulous with my installs. Especially removing door panels and such. I can't stand rattles in my vehicles. If I were you I'd say go for it! I'm very happy with the quality and the end result of the whole set up. (Except for the back up camera) I just ordered a 6inch cord so when I have the phone hooked up for android auto there are no messy cords. The whole set up was $1000.00, probably the least I ever spent on the car:rofl:

LOL that's good cause I already ordered too much stuff for this car lately and my wife would not be pleased with an enormous stereo bill considering I barely drive the car
Thanks again for the info, I'm very excited to finally upgrade the nav and hopefully I'll be able to hear the stereo now over the long tubes :)

The Head unit doesn't fit flush. It is movable from what it looks like. I would have to assume it has to do with the mounting adaptor for the dash. You might be able to do something custom. Just wanted you to know.

Yes, I'll have to look into it.
I have a full custom setup in the car now, but using the stock head unit :)
