What size pulley for ysi

Finally got my ysi ordered. My current set up is a forged 427, heads, cam, Ttrim blower, 3.1 pulley, 8” overdrive, 8 rib set up. I hit 780 on e85. My goal is 900+ with the ysi, my question is, what is the smallest sized pulley I can put on without belt slip or going flip drive or 10 rib. Should I stick with the 3.1 or could I do a 2.9 or smaller? Thanks!

I would recommend the 3" but idk how it will effect belt slip, I had a flip drive with 8 rib and never had an issue.

YSI is a lot harder to spin than a t-trim, so I wouldn't be surprised if a 3.1 slips on just an 8 rib. I know I had issues in the 3.15 range with just 8 rib.

If I had a 3.1 on the car now I would just do a 2.75 & overspin that puppy & really get the HP out of it. The YSI loves the 2.75 pulley on it but like you have said I would look at the 10 rib r the flip drive. On my c5 with the YSI on it I did the flip drive & it didn't slip at all. I also had a forged 402 motor & it made 1173 rwhp & that was with a auto trans & also on a mustang dyno. The YSI loves the 2.75 pulley man...

Yes it does, but not with just an 8 rib. I run a 2.70 with 10 rib and direct drive, zero issues. With just an 8 rib 3.1 maybe pushing it.

gameover4 10-09-2018 02:15 PM

your going to need to go 10 rib or direct drive...

ZincGT 10-09-2018 07:01 PM

2.7 cut pulley on a 8 rib direct drive with 0 issues

ZR1-ab 10-09-2018 07:45 PM

to reach over 900 u going to need a 2.7" , flip drive and a 10 rib

_Wayne_ 10-09-2018 08:11 PM

Well looks like a direct drive is the way to go. Could I do 8 rib with a direct drive or is 10 rib pretty much a necessity?

8 rib and a 3.0 and you will be able to reach your goals. You can do 2.7 but it’s not necessary, I made 930 uncorrected in Denver with the 2.7 on e85

What was your drive setup? Also what engine do you have?

cartek flip drive, 402 with ls3 heads

realcanuk 10-09-2018 09:01 PM

Making 1000 on an 8 rib, flip drive, and 3.0 pulley. No belt slip.

gameover4 10-11-2018 08:06 AM

im running AA direct drive 2.85 8 rib no slip

_Wayne_ 10-11-2018 08:10 AM

So I’m thinking going with the carteck flip drive and a 2.8 or 2.7. Any opinions on the carteck vs the A&A or Ecs?

Unreal 10-11-2018 08:39 AM

A&A is WORLDs better for the flip drive. I've ran just about every setup. If you are going that far, might as well just do the 10 rib with flip. Cost difference is basically nothing at that point.

I'm running a gates HD green belt. Hasn't given me any issues at all. When it needs a change I may try an RPM belt. They were not out yet when I did my build.

Ant-Man 10-11-2018 02:00 PM

Direct drive 8 rib, 3.1" gates green belt making 20psi.. around 550hp but let's not talk about that.

gameover4 10-11-2018 04:17 PM

i ran green belts and they glazed over and began to squeak quickly. since then gone to rpm and will never run anything else
