Finding my fuel door ajar when approaching car

I've noticed that when i'm going to my car I consistently find the fuel door cracked open a bit. I close it, get in and go and haven't really given it any thought until now that it's annoying. I checked the DIC settings and don't see the fuel door included in the "Passive Door Unlock" or "Remote Door Unlock" settings so it's something else. I don't use the fob to unlock the door when I approach and get in which is why I don't see why the fuel door is opened.. Does unlocking the fuel door mechanism equate to it opening ?

Page 27 of the Manual :
Press to unlock the driver door. Press again within five seconds to unlock both doors. When remotely unlocking the vehicle at night, the
headlamps and back-up lamps will come on for about 30 seconds to light your approach to the vehicle. The turn signal indicators may flash
to indicate unlocking. Pressing K will disarm the theft-deterrent system. See Vehicle
Alarm System 0 40.
When the doors are unlocked, the fuel door is also unlocked.

No unlocking doesn’t equate to opening. It’s possible your door open/close mechanism isn’t working and only the lock is holding it closed.

Only when the fuel door is unlocked it is a push - open, push - closed type door.

Perhaps the fuel door latch is malformed/damaged, and isn't holding the door closed firmly, and after a little time, the door slips past the latching mechanism?

Or maybe the OP brushes against the door on his way out and the next time the driver's door is opened (or unlocked), the fuel door pops?

(had similar issue myself - embarrassing!)

I have had this happen randomly in the past. In my case I THINK it was caused by not firmly closing the door after refueling. Hope you can find the fix.

I've had it happen randomly too--never quite sure why it does that.

KenHorse, why is your car parked in the middle of the street?

This would be why.....

Well, I'm a-standing on a corner
In Winslow, Arizona
Such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord
In a flat-bed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me

Mime would randomly pop open when I first got it. It hadn't done it in a few months now. I don't know why it stopped.

The antenna is making gas door open.

The fuel door opening is a problem that we had several times on my wife's '15 Z. And its happened at least twice since our May purchase of her '18 Z. Pops open when you open the drivers door. Unsure if there is a fix. We just try to be aware of it and check when we close the driver door.

If you press the fuel door when the driver's door is closed, when it opens, so does the fuel door. Doesn't matter if we're talking hours, days, minutes or seconds. The fuel door is opening

Solution? Don't press the fuel door :nono:

roy817 10-22-2018 03:29 PM

So you're saying that you stop at a gas station, get out, close the driver's door, pop open the fuel door, fill up, pay up, close the fuel door, open the driver's door to get in and drive away, the fuel door will pop back open? Doesn't happen to my car.

Roastum1 03-03-2019 12:40 PM

No way would I plug it so it won't lock anymore. Have seen sugar in the tank over the years more than once! No gas cap now either on these cars!!:nono:

OP: Someone is messing with you. If someone (without the proper key fob) pushes the fuel door and later you approach with the fob, it'll open.
