i currently use thinkware 770 in addition to the pdr. it gives me front and rear view

I use the PDR. You just have to get into the habit of starting it up every time. You also have to delete all the files on the SD card when that fills up.

Same here. I'm not into aftermarket junk loading up your windshield, dashboard, and cr@p all over the place. Factory PDR is the only way to go. 👍

The OEM PDR cannot provide video of someone hitting your car in a parking lot with you away, or someone messing with it anywhere when parked. OwlCam will send an alert to your phone, capture front and rear video, and you can view that video on your phone from anywhere. You can then send a clip to your insurance company and law enforcement.

The PDR only works when the car is running. Systems like OwlCam are always on without the operator having to start and stop them. When no motion is sensed the camera sleeps. All video is stored "in the cloud" and can be accessed by 4G LTE on your phone. You can review the history of all video for up to a couple of weeks after it was recorded.

PDR is worthless as a security cam, and might only give you relevant video of a frontal impact while driving IF you remember to turn it on.

Blackvue DR900-S dual channel. I was going for the Thinkware 800, but after seeing the quality of Blackvue's 4K, I was sold.

I installed the blacksys CH-100 and it works well for the money... I could not justify 500 to 800 dollars on a camera setup..

blackboxmycar will work with us on the install cable by adding another 10 feet to it, you just have to call and request him to extend the cable.. (most will be short for our battery placement)

Am in total agreement with Foosh and Implied Consent. While the factory PDR is awesome I suspect it does not provide support to incidents of accidents; driving, moving or parked. Not sure how much help the factory PDR would be in a situation disputing a traffic violation. Additionally, the BlackVue system has the ability to mount dual cameras; one in the front and one in the back. The BlackVue also does not clutter up the interior. Front mounts directly under the rearview mirror and the rear in the back window. Wires are completely hidden.

Same with OwlCam, but front and back cameras are in the same small package. OwlCam interior/rear-facing camera also turns on very bright LEDs when someone enters the car without the cell phone the system is paired with. You'll have a 1080i HD image of whomever might be doing bad things with your vehicle.

It's almost certain that the incident reported by a recent poster whose car was stolen from a dealership service department wouldn't have happened. The bad guy would have had 2 bright LEDs lighting him up with the camera pointed right at him shooting video. It would have been a great video of him making a hasty exit.

I second the vote for the Blackvue DR900S, either 1 channel or 2 channel. It provides the sharpest picture quality to date. You can easily mount it on your windshield and use the Blendmount Wiretap to get power directly from the rearview mirror power leads (of course you can do this with any dash cam). It's also best to get the accessory polarizing filter to minimize reflections from the dashboard due to the rake of the windshield.

Regarding the Blackvue dashcam, I'm concerned about the 1-star comments at Amazon (heat).

It all boils down to how much cr@p AND $$$ you want
to spend in mods. H#ll, mount 6-cameras in/on your C7. I don't subject my C7 to parking where it's ever going to be compromised. Some, are just add-on gadget freaks. No amount of mods pleases them. :lol:

The 1 star could be any number of variables within Amazon. I purchased from an electronics specialty store and installed professionally. The only problem with heat could have been with the adhesive tape that comes with the system for adhering to the windshield, Got around that based on a previous system, (BlackBox FDX). The BlackBox system was bolted / screwed onto the bottom of the rearview mirror. Did the same with the BlackVue. Have had absolutely no problems with heat.

@ 18% one-star reviews and following one reviewer's suggestion to Google "Blackvue 900 overheat", it seems to be a legitimate problem (and one search result was an admission from Blackvue of the problem and that they are working on a solution). At the price they charge, I'm not going to take the chance. Temps can get quite hot in Atlanta and my Corvette is more of a dark color than a light color. so...

Got it. I have the DR750S. The 900 came out several monthes ater I had mine installed. Foosh is using the Owl system and seems pleased with it. Good luck on your selection. Hope you get what you are looking for. :thumbs:
