Rod bearings Ls7
 
Hallo Guys i have i Question can i replace the Rod bearings without removing the Motor ??
Also so Lower Axle and motor bridge ?
Which rod bearings i Need for my 2006 z06

Also want to do in my winter project replace to Rod bearings on my Stock bottom end ls7 with about 40000 miles
The car has stock rebuild heads small cam headers and intake and katech oil pump

What i need for the replacing oil pan gasket connecting rod bearings and new screw.

I do this few times on many S50b32 m3 engine and s54 engine So I know how to screw a bit.

Has anyone on the car made me look forward to your answers.

I suppose you could...support the engine somehow and drop the crossmember. Would need to disconnect the steering rack but otherwise should be pretty simple.

Why? 40k is nothing, and if you are going that deep, just replace everything.

I dont know tell me how is it about Rod bearing issues on the LS7.
If i see the Threads with Connecting Rod Porblems I get a pain in my stomach.

Coating wears off, wipes out the rods. Replacing bearings will do ZERO to fix that.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the rod bearing failure occurred on the 2012/2013 models when they switched to a lead free bearing so the 2006 is likely not affected.

I think if the rod bearings are closed So if they have reached their wear limit then the bearing clearance becomes too large.
When wearing the titanium connecting rods, the connecting rod bearings are usually not available. I think it causes the connecting rods begin to wear out.
I hope I could explain it.
I also thought I could see the condition of the connecting rod before the engine get exploded.

Also i Need new Rod bearings
new bolts
new oil plan gasket
and new oil with filter

Whiche bearings are good and can I take the ARP bolts??

The only way you can tell if you need new rod bearings is to inspect them, and it seems as if you have no reason that you've posted as to why you would need to do this. If you want to tear open your motor because you can, go ahead, but you should do the head valve guides and then go enjoy your car. cheers

hey Thanks a l lot i have new Valve Guides on my stock ls7 heads thats what i make first.
=leftI ask only because the Bmw engines such as the s65b40 or s85b50 rod bearings have problems.
Believe me I'm not in the mood for spending my free time in the garage I prefer to be with my children and my family.

But what does that mean if I have an engine failure due to rod end bearing damage and spend my spare time in the garage that would cost me a lot of money and a divorce? :-) :-)

Better care than aftercare, I thought.

But if you say never touch a running system then I'll leave it that way. I do not know if the LS7 engines have rod bearings problems so I ask here.

If any one has any experience with what mileage in which state they are ....

Easiest thing to do is to send out an oil sample to a laboratory and have them test it. If it comes back with no Titanium and normal lead levels, then you should not have to worry about the bearings. If there is any Ti and your lead levels are 7 to 15+PPM, then go ahead and investigate. I am sure there are labs that routinely test motor oil in Germany. I had an E46 M3 that had the bearings replaced under warranty so understand where you are coming from on the concerns. Other than the 2012-3 years, bearing issues are less common on the LS7s,

Less common but as they get up in mileage, definitely becoming an issue. Rod bearings and rod failure are soon approaching as big or bigger issue than heads from what I've seen. Just takes mileage to get there. Maybe the new goal will just be get the heads to last until the rods/rod bearings fail, then when they are off to replace the bottom end, cheap/easy to fix the heads at that time. Hell on ZVO forum there has been a huge rash of rod bearing failures recently, not to mention all the locals losing rod bearings.

Not bad, not perfect. Rod bearings probably would have been fine for a long time, but the rods and high TI level are concerning. Not huge wear, but once it starts it snowballs fast.

If you're not hearing any knock, I see no reason to swap any engine bearings. an ls7 with 40k miles, minor upgrades, and good valve guides is a pretty tough engine. I'd go all or nothing, pull engine and do a full tear down, or keep enjoying it. What is the oil pressure like? what oil do you run?

Being in Germany, Id expect this car sees high speeds all the time...?

See the oil report below, Ti the last two analyses (plus interim one), double the lead content and several low oil pressure lights and pressure gauge drops at idle gave me concern. I do a few road course events a year, some 1/2 mile and longer straight line events and run a 90 mile event at 150 MPH twice a year. The street use is easy, below 3000 RPM most of the time. The performance work uses the engine in the 4000-73000 RPM range. Since 2016 with HCI work and the just completed Forged bottom end the car is ~590/520 rwHP/tq. 59K miles now.
