Worth buying a multi owner, 100k mile z06?

I recently came across a 7 owner (2 of which I believe to be a dealership) red 2006 1LT z06 with 95k miles that has had the heads rebuilt and the valve guide issue addressed. The seller said he had the heads done at a business called "corvette village" in kansas city and he spent about $4k on it with receipts to prove it. The car has minimal scratches but does need some of the plastic exterior bits to be replaced such as the front splitter, wheel well guards, and the engine bay cover. The head lights also need to be replaced as they have started to fog up. It also has a two pipe corsa exhaust conversion, if I bought it I would plan to convert it back to the standard four pipes. The interior shows wear consistent with the mileage, nothing major.

The engine sounds healthy and transmission shifts fine, the tires will need to be replaced within the near future, the car was involved in a minor rear collision according to the car fax it resulted in minor cosmetic damage and I don't believe the air bags were deployed, the carfax does show regular maintenance (about 30 service history reports show up).

I'm currently waiting on the results of a PPI from a chevy dealership, I can update this post when that comes in.

TL;DR 7 owner red c6 z06 with 95k miles that needs some cosmetic work but has had the valve guide issue addressed.

Is this car worth buying? How much is this car worth? At what price point would it be better to just buy a nicer example?

Looking forward to your comments. Thanks!

*****UPDATE*****
The PPI came back from the chevy dealership with a suggested $9500 in repairs!

if the car has had more than 2 owners it is pretty much trash, I would keep looking if I were you

Z's are often garage queen cars. Common to have lots of owners and low mileage. I'm the third owner of mine and bought it at 8K miles, completely mint...

So, your advice is pretty much trash.

Why would more than 2 owners make the the car trash?

High mileage cars are abundant, but should also be treated on a case by case basis with regards to 'is it worth purchasing.' Your particular car may have just been cruised, others have long commute miles and some are driven hard and abused. The point is, high mileage shouldn't be the sole reason not to buy. In fact a 100K ZO6 is a great way to get a lot of car for fairly cheap. I would especially focus on a high mileage car if I was wanting to build a track car. Most of the wear items would be replaced with race parts anyway. Long story short, high mileage has NEVER scared me away from a car, just make sure intended usage matches the car your getting. If you're getting the car to take long journeys with...maybe a lower mile example should get the nod. But pretty much only in that particular case IMO. My buddy just bought a higher mileage example, but the car is pretty flawless, makes great power, and performs exactly as he wants. Worked out well for him. Good luck with your choice man.

Thank you that was great advice. I don't plan to track the car. It wouldn't be my daily either. I'm planning to put between 4-6k miles a year on it. I was just about to buy a 31k mile super clean '07 z06 in Le mans blue for $35k but then this one popped up and the seller seems to be up for negotiating, any idea what kind of offer I should make him?

Worth it is always something only you can answer.

I would pay 21-23k for that car. My 2006 has had 4 owners via Carfax and 2 of those were dealer to dealer sales. If it is maintained and in good shape and you can get it for low 20’s I would say that’s a good deal! If you get a lower mileage Z for a higher price, most lower mileage Z’s don’t have the heads fixed or if they do are usually modified and raced. If you can do the work yourself it would add 2k to the price of the other Z or 3.5K if you need to pay for both parts and labor. So since the heads are aleady addressed that can be like a 3.5k savings!

go with the le mans blue. if this will be your dd you will love it. if building a track car, go for the other one if the price is right. i'd say under 20k

Mine is a 4 owner car with 36000 miles and I don't think it is trash. Actually I think I am number 5.

Very nice Z!

I paid $36k for my '08 with 28k miles on it, about 2 years ago.. I'd try to get the 07 and haggle the price a bit.

I have a 07 with with 57k miles also only 1 owner. Clean title, never any paint work. Black with black and cream interior. Heads are fixed and the car has no issues. I'm asking 29,500 obo.

And the most asinine quote of the year goes to...….

I'm the third owner of my '07. Every document, piece of literature, receipts, service records, etc., etc. since new, near flawless condition mechanically and cosmetically, 11k miles. If it were for sale (it's not), the 4th owner would have a peach of a Z06. And I would suspect this scenario is more the rule than the exception.

How much are they asking for it?

mkitt27 10-23-2018 09:34 PM

Worth buying is something only you and the PPI can determine, depends on your budget too. Hard to say on price point to get something newer... suppose depends on the difference in price.

Just did a quick nationwide search on autotrader for C6Z06, 25 under $30 price. Most are $25-$30K and mileage jumps around 70-95k miles. Asking price of course. So maybe a 10K different in price between the high mileage and the LeMans blue one. Certainly the blue one will likely be a bit cleaner and ready for road trips.

Stavesacre21 10-23-2018 09:42 PM

Price is crucial on a car with miles and a history like that. Don't expect them to give it away but something like 7 owners will negatively affect the price (on their side) and you definitely need to figure that in.

While there is a chance there's nothing big wrong with it, when I see a car change hands THAT many times, it makes me wonder if each person discovered "the issue" themselves and just kept paying it forward instead of dealing with it. Again, I can't back that up on this particular car, but tread lightly and make sure the price is worth both the miles and extended ownership history.

THIS is a good example of a nice vehicle that i'd feel extremely comfortable paying that kind of money for. When they come back around the same price on the 100K mile car with 7 owners your looking at...THIS should come to mind. Good lord, with a Z like that on the table, I wouldn't offer a penny more than $25K over the one your looking at with it's history. A ONE OWNER...the extra $5K on this fellas car would likely be money WELL spent, IMO. While a one owner isnt an absolute must, it makes me realize that it was someone's real pride and joy, and you're getting something that's been truly cared for.

Good luck buddy.
