2019 Z06 base or 2019 GS with options
Hello Vette guys... curious of opinions on would you by a Base 2019 Z06 for $71k ($81k MSRP) or a 2019 GrandSport with options?
|
It all honestly comes down to what you plan to do with the car. I personally wanted to create my own beast so i ordered a Z06 with all of the options I wanted. I knew I wanted to highly modify the vette so I chose the Z06 over the ZR1, plus I am saving money while making more horsepower.
If you are daily driving, either car will be fine as far as how they handle in the street. The options will definitely help you more for daily driving as the front cameras have saved my ass numerous times. If you plan on modding the car, or tracking, the lighter the car, the better. |
Thanks fro the reply, no plans to track the car, it will remain stock, I have a 2008 Z06 now and would like to upgrade to a C7, but the options on these new vettes are quite pricy, Basically it will be a weekend and Corvette Club car.. seems GrandSports are a dime a dozen....A base Z06 may hold it's value better.. Truth always comes down to money, don't want to spend more than $71k. and than means a base Z06 or a GrandSport with options

Not even a question, get the base Z06. There isn't a single option in the 2LZ or 3LZ packages that makes up for that extra 200hp.
|
Thanks, I seem to be leaning that way.

The best bang for the buck car is the 2LZ. You get some options that make the car a little more comfortable when traveling. Since you aren't planning on tracking the car don't bother with the Comp Seats. Here are the things the 2LZ has the 1LZ doesn't have.

Had almost the same decision back in late 2016. I was selling my 09 Z and was debating on the GS vs Z06. As I shopped around, I found a new 2016 Z (2LZ A8, LBR) and was able to purchase if for less than the local dealer would sell me the 2017 GS! It was a no brainer. I have had it for 2 years, and logged 9K miles on it - the car has been fantastic. I also felt going to the GS from the 09 Z was a step down. My 09 Z was a great car but I wanted some of the new refinements. I believe the Z will always hold its value better than the GS. There are several Z’s sitting on Lots that are worth considering. Just my opinion. |
Thanks for the note, it seems the common opinion is to get a Z06 even if I can't afford a loaded one. I did find a new 2017 Z06 3lz MSRP of $101,000 for sale at $79,000... but i am stilll leaning to just get a 2019 even if I have to get a base Z06... it seems a base 2019 Z06 is $72,000 after discunts and then it jumps way up to low 80's for a 2lz....

Z06 all the way.

I have a base 16Z m7 paid $86000 out the door. Have put $10000 in mods. AFE, kook LT, 2300 Magnuson, 5% pulley with ATI balancer, expansion tank, and tuned. Love the car. Every corvette I’ve had has been moded. It’s a beast. Before the Supercharger upgrade went 197 at the Mojave magnum mile. No regrets |

You’ll miss the high revving ls7. Lt4 is a torque monster but peters out past 5k rpm. The lt4 is better suited for a pick up truck and a snow bird towing a fifth wheel then a sports car. |
Z06.
The GS is a waste of cash IMO, especially since they're very similar prices with a Z. If there was a 20k difference i would say GS but the price is almost identical. Makes no sense to ever consider a GS. Plus it's slow as hell. |

It’s tough keeping it hooked up. It’s nice to be able to SAY “my car has more HP than yours” but can it be used??? Personally I’d rather have a loaded GS than a stripped Z. Which is why I bought one. Has the look for less money and plenty of power. To each his own. |

Where can I find a Z for the same price as a GS? Equally optioned. I’m gonna play the devil’s advocate here. If you’re not gonna track the car, or street race, the 460 hp GS is plenty for the street. Has the look for less money and plenty of power. To each his own. I'll use a 1LZ vs a 2LT GS. 2LT GS's go for what? 68-70? Whereas 3LT's go for 74-75K? I got my 1LZ for 68.8, so we'll call it 69k. So that's about the same as a 2LT since the thread title said GS with options. It makes zero sense to go with a GS for the same price as a z06. The argument about using the power on the street or if you're going to track the car is flawed. Because even track guys aren't using their vette as a dedicated track car. It's a street car with track events thrown in the mix. 460hp is a lot. 10 years ago. These days that's not enough. Even for the street. The idea of the power and torque is the excitement of getting up to speed in a faster time than a slower car. I don't even have to downshift when i want to put bus lengths on cars when i want to pass them. Even without racing, i can punch it in 5th gear at 65mph and before you know it i look at the speedo and i'm doing well in the triple digits. Without downshifting. It's not about going WOT in every gear where the z06 power might be too much. It's the immediate power and torque EVERYWHERE in the RPM, in any gear. That's the difference. I've had a C6GS before. With full bolt ons. Made 430rwhp. It was slow. |
