How much better is the C7 vs the C6

I currently have a 2013 Anniversary Vert I am SERIOUSLY thinking of ordering a New Torch Red Manual Z51 Vert. Have all of you felt The C7 was an Upgrade from The C6 and in what ways ???

Dcasole 10-31-2018 08:48 AM

The C6 was designed back in 2001 -2004 and lacks a lot of technology that we take for granted now .

I had a 2011 C6 that I loved but the 2015 is by far so much more advanced in every way , to numerous to list . Drive one and you will see

They are really different vehicles as was the jump from the 5 to the 6. They are all great cars but the 7 is a totally different experience/upgrade. You can talk about some of the mechanical and cosmetic design issues with any vehicle...still an upgrade.

mtaxman 10-31-2018 09:17 AM

This question was on a Facebook for C7s and the majority opinion was the C7 is a large upgrade.
The Ron Fellows instructors and a pro driver at NCM Motorsports park told me that a base C7 is better than a C6 Z.
I have no first hand experience but my C7 is incredible.
Tech ( like the post above said) and time marches on...each generation gets better.

I enjoyed my C-6 but after purchasing my C-7, there is no comparison between the two. The C-7 is an amazing car, drive one and you will buy one.

Huge difference in interior upgrade and performance upgrade. It's a totally different car vs the C6.

If you test drive a C7, you'll want one.

Zjoe6 10-31-2018 10:04 AM

I thought the C6 was very plane looking.

Honestly i loved my C5 but i can't say i ever loved my C6 - other than the LS3 power which was awesome btw. But the constant popping roof, the low rent interior, and the awful stiff harsh ride, i mean i had to slow down for EVERYTHING or my teeth and kidneys rattled. If it means anything in 5 years i put nearly 60k miles on my C5 before i traded it for the C6. Contrast that to the C6 i traded in after 5 years with 20k miles. I loved the look and power of the car but i just didn't love driving it.

The C7 is a different animal altogether. It rides sooooooo much better, the roof rarely pops, the interior is heads and shoulders above anything i ever saw in the C6, the power is impressive, the looks are fantastic, the tech is up to date and overall it just looks and feels like an exotic. I remember when i first bought my C7, i would get thumbs up from everyone including kids on the street to a random guy driving by in a Lamborghini Gallardo. <--Yes that happened!

To this day i still get kids who react wildly to seeing the C7. They stare, wave, take pictures, thumbs-up, etc. I have had this car for 4 years now. I would have racked up more miles on it except i have a very nice DD that is so very comfortable to drive. This car is most likely a keeper so i want it to last as long as possible.

One way to compare the C6 & C7; both are lethal but one is James Bond and the other is John Wayne. Choose the one you want to live with

Honestly, the C7 is better than the C6 in almost every way. Better ride, better handling, better braking, better looks (IMO the C6 looks very dated now), better acceleration, better MPG, better interior, better fit and finish. The only area I think the C6 has the edge is in interior room, as taller people do complain they feel cramped in the C7. (not a problem for me at 5 foot 7)

direct007 10-31-2018 10:14 AM

I loved my c6 but once I had the C7...I never looked back. The overall feel of the car is a much more polished version. It drives better, handles better. The seats are better. The feel of the interior, the technology is just better than the C6. I also love the stereo sound and the Apple Car Play / Android Auto connectivity. The C6 sound system reminded me of a transistor radio compared to the C7's.

C7 100% :auto:

I have a 2008 Z06 and a 2019 Z06 Callaway. No doubt that the C7 has better suspension, higher tech gadgets and a quieter ride but that C6 definitely feels more nimble and is more pure fun to drive. Above all, the cockpit in the C6 is roomier and the C6 seats are way more comfortable for me (I am 5'11' and 207).

You can really only tell by driving a new Z51 and then decide for yourself. If you love it and are able to, keep the 2013 as well.

GARYFINN 10-31-2018 10:59 AM

Thanks this is all good information.

KenHorse 10-31-2018 10:59 AM

Gary, the C7 is heads and shoulders above the C6 in just about every metric.

Handling, power (and low end torque), comfort, electronics, stiffness and lack of rattles, and so on. Pick just about any measure and the C7 takes it

(ex-owner of '95 coupe, '02 Z06, '07 coupe, '14 Z51 coupe and soon-to-be '19 GS coupe)

My brother and I both bought C6 Z06s, mine an 06 and his an 07. I sold mine in 08 (brother still has his) and went German (Audi, BMW, and Porsche) until 2015 when I purchased a C7 Z51. It felt dramatically more refined, but I didn't realize how much better the C7 is until I recently had the opportunity to drive my brother's C6 Z06 while visiting. It felt archaic in comparison, almost like driving an old muscle car.

You are making the right decision going with an M7, given all the issues with the A8. The main thing coming from the C6 for me was the return of the cock-pit feeling in the C7. Look at the competition seats which was a major thing for me, but not so much for some others.

That being said, there are some things I miss from the C6. First, I don't need no stinkin' AFM - the LS3 was a pretty solid engine and I got much better gas mileage with the LS3 than with the the LT1 with the stinkin' AFM. I also miss being able to install an aftermarket radio when I want an upgrade. No way to upgrade the C7 radio. And other little things like not having turn signals on the HUD in the C7 were annoying.

I find that very hard to believe. I came from an LS2 C6 (which gets better MPG than the LS3) and my LT1 gets much better gas mileage than my LS2 did, by a considerable margin.

I agree with this. The interior quality of the C7 is miles ahead, but I don't find it as comfortable as the C6. The cars always get better with time from a quality and performance standpoint, but preference is another thing. No way Id chose a narrow C7 over a wide C6.

Likewise. Even not using AFM, my '14 Z51 got overall better mileage than did my '07

TPAJETSKI 10-31-2018 12:55 PM

I'm of the minority but my C6 GS seemed to be screwed together much better than my C7 Z51. My C7 has buzzes that originate from the hatch area and the roof pops and creaks. I never had those issues with the C6. I am also old school and thought the dash layout was much cleaner and easier to read in the C6.
