Holley Dominator on Pro-charged LT1

Has anyone installed the Holley Dominator ECU on a C4? I Just ordered one. I have a 92 with LT4 Hotcam and Procharger. I can't find anyone local to tune it so I went with this option. Just wanted to see if anyone has done this before. They System looks pretty amazing and user friendly.

Thanks,

Interested in this as well. It would be helpful to hear your experience with install, and the self-learning phases. Did you also look into MS3?

Will you be able to use your opti? As it may need a cam and crank sensor.

Good luck-Will be following!

OP may have an answer for this but my research led me to believe a cam sync and crank trigger are needed. I think this means the stock intake needs modification?

Good information here. I think you would have to drill a hole in the manifold for the cam sync distributor to go through. This would provide the cam signal to the ECU, and still use the optispark to fire the plugs.

More dominator/LT1 talk: (see post #7)

I don't think you can use that with opti. I believe the distributor style cam sync allows you to use the existing ignition coil and Opti distributor, and just gives you a cam position signal.

Pwnage1337 11-10-2018 01:07 PM

You're probably right. Aren't there a few guys that run LS coils instead of the Opti? Might be a valid option if your Opti has shit the bed

Doesnt the 96 timing cover have an extra sensor in it?

was it crank position sensor? Can he use that for anything?

of course he’d have to convert cam and optispark over to later style parts as well to do that

would that work

never mind - he’d also need a crank reluctor wheel? Not sure if that can be retrofitted to crank

A lot of companies offer a flying magnet crank trigger that mounts to the balancer, and uses a pickup sensor mounted on a bracket near the timing cover. Does the same thing as a reluctor wheel

….. I use a Holley Dominator on a Gen 1 small block with LSx coils and sequential fuel injection running E85 … I used a FAST Dual Synch Distributor for cam and crank signals … I originally bought the Dominator to also control a 4L60E trans that was in the car … an HP would suffice now that I've upgraded to a TH400 trans … the self-tuning is a breeze if you are running a mild to moderate camshaft … there are some very good base maps included with the software … tuning the lower rpm vs load ranges gets trickier with long duration cams as the overlap contributes extra air into the exhaust … I don't know anything about using this on an LT1 , but it shouldn't be all that difficult … You will love the Holley EFI stuff ! …..

I wouldn't use a dual sync distributor.

On my blown 412 I have a 36-1 crank wheel. I welded the wheel to the back of the crank pulley, and have a small bracket with a Ford sensor. This provides my crank signal. You can run just like that and use wasted spark, or you can modify the optispark to provide you with a cam signal for fully sequential.

So Far So Good. I replaced the opti with the cam and crank sensor kit from EFI connection and mounted LS ignition coils on the valve covers today, still running the new wiring harness and a lot of more wiring and connectors but so far haven't hit any road blocks. Here's a pic of the coils getting mounted on the valve covers, and where the Opti replacement thingy is going. Thanks for all the feedback and pics! My mechanic said its either gonna run and perform amazinly or not at all!!!

WIP, waiting on new harmonic balancer, the factory one was seperating from the HP made by the pro charger, got an ATI with built in hub, the factory hub was to long with the opti replacement

Mike Waldhorn 11-22-2018 09:35 AM

yep, got that!

Mike Waldhorn 11-22-2018 09:38 AM

lol you sound like me during this whole project, the best was when my tech said well I see we're replacing the opti with the EFI kit so where do the ignition wires plug in

Any updates mike?? :)

What are you doing about CCM communication/dash functionality?

I'm chiming in since our combos are very similar. Good luck with the install. I'm tuning in.
