Add me to the bent rim Grand Sport club (video)

Folks,

Noticed a definite shimmy in the steering wheel today on this car. I've hit nothing of any real significance (normal work commute I've had for 12 years), and so this is very odd. Car has 900 miles on it and is ONE MONTH old! Here is a quick video I shot to show the wobble. Wow.

I set up an appt with the dealership. At 900 miles and no real impact this is ridiculous. If GM claims they have little 'field data', it is up to us to change that by making them aware. I have never bent a rim like this. What are they made of, tin foil?

Check out this WOBBLE!!!

Bummer but not surprised. Good luck with the replacement.

Buddy that has to be a nice driver on that rims, the c7 is are looks to be a ton worse than the c5 rims were back in the day on them. That are bigger holes in the road.:(:hide:

Which wheels do you have?

Jedi-Jurist 11-14-2018 10:05 PM

Welcome to the club, no one wishes we were here. I actually covered this issue in my review of the car (at around 12:45):

Dang, that is very disappointing. I will have to check and see if I get any vibration on my GS.

Yeah I am racking my brain trying to figure out what it was, but I know there was no 65mph speed bumps! Dang...

Thanks, I appreciate that!

The GS rim problem is pretty widespread.

falcon5619 11-15-2018 06:21 AM

I bought the wheel and tire insurance. I wonder how many new wheels I can get over a 5 year period. Maybe I should just go run over a speed bump once a year and get a new set. :D. In fact, maybe GM bent them as they run over those rumble strips to help settle the suspension as the cars come off the assembly line.

Hell I spit my coffee back out my nose reading your responses.....

After reading everybody's woes about the GS/Z06 wheels I understand why my dealer was pushing the tire and rim warranty....
Good luck OP....agree this shouldn't be happening....

Zjoe6 11-15-2018 09:29 AM

Noooooooooo!!!!!!!! 😩

bjones7131 11-15-2018 09:59 AM

I put a set of Z06 wheels on my 17 GS, no issues so far. GS seems to be a bad design, very weak. Good luck with fix. Bummer

He's right, 1 cup isn't nearly enough.

Sconn 11-15-2018 10:11 AM

I am secretly hoping for one of mine to bend or crack... Then it's an excuse to get aftermarket.
Not to say I still wouldn't be pissed... Just shouldn't be happening!

If they are chrome good luck getting them from gm they are on backorder I waited 3 months not shipped so I cancelled the order and found some new take offs on ebay ,my insurance is paying for them because gm wont warranty them, if these bend again I will be putting on a set of Vossen M-X3 clears gloss rims I just didn't want to sink 7000.00 dollars right now.
