GT2RS vs. ZR1

There's been some discussion recently comparing these two automobiles including recent issues of Automobile and Car and Driver. The Porsche does well in these tests but here's what it takes to actually buy one.

We all know it is more expensive.

Boba Fett 11-16-2018 04:53 AM

point?

hcvone 11-16-2018 06:52 AM

I paid sticker from my GT2 RS and my ZR1, yes some dealerships mark cars up, both Chevy's and Porsche's, and if someone wants to pay me 150k over sticker, I will sell it tomorrow, and I may throw in the ZR1, so what's the POINT?

is that you can buy a ZR1 for the cost of the dealer mark up on the GT2 RS.

:lurk:

Telepierre 11-16-2018 08:33 AM

I agree the hyped price should go with the hyped car..

My buddy has a modified one, makes over 780RWHP, basically he ruined its corner exit ability. I did 20+ mins in it at COTA as a passenger and the Corvette will smash it in the corners. It has a special Type R Michelin tire, honestly was not impressed...tracks complement cars. It’s a understeering expensive toy!

That’s just typical ridiculous California markup for the latest hot item as they fish for a live one. The GT2 RS is already twice the price of the ZR1 in stock form, which to me is bizarre, but if one is a Porsche junkie and somehow enjoy mastering a supercar that has a rear end that is always trying to go where the front end is if you over cook it going around a corner, then it’s well woth the money I’m sure.

I had a 996 TT and a Lingenfelter Maggie supercharged C6 at the same time years ago and one day I was driving the Porsche, forgot I was in it instead of the vette, and started to slide going around a tight turn up in the mountain’s, and that F - - - ing thing immediately started to swap ends when I made the mistake of lifting on the throttle. Fortunately the nannies kicked in and saved my ass ( good thing I wasn’t in one of the earlier 911’s without the safety nets). IMHO, for a fun SAFER street car except in the hands of someone who really knows WTF they are doing at all times, I’ll take a ZR1 any day over a GT2 RS. Course in the old Clint Eastwood movie, “ A man has to know his limitations” and since I’m not a highly skilled amateur like some on here or a pro, I know I fall into the 99 percent of vette junkies who are basically just happy careful posers with high performance driving limits at a lower threshold.

heavychevy 11-16-2018 10:47 AM

Uh, if you just lift throtte mid countersteer, you will swap ends in any car.

Same way some dealers have marked-up ZR1's ! They both really are dreaming for the one big fish they might land. Full placebo effect included with purchase.

Whew! For just a second there I thought I had been too subtle.

Boba Fett 11-16-2018 07:59 PM

its a market value which really doesn't mean anything as evidenced by post # 4
if some1 wants to pay 150 on top of msrp...their prerogative, dont see what the big deal is

its much worse and more drastic in the Porsche.

KnightDriveTV 11-16-2018 09:01 PM

What's the ZR1 worth in 5yrs and what's the GT2RS worth though? A factor to consider also. If trends continue, you could theoretically not lose a dime of depreciation on the GT2RS.

That said, I still think the ZR1 sells itself due to no crazy maintenance costs and they're just simpler to own.

Telepierre 11-17-2018 07:29 AM

Truth is the GT2RS is more like bitcoin @ 20K.

Hype, pump and dump until the last sucker. Once you run out of suckers there is only one way and that is down.
The scheme is already busting in Europe. Just a matter of time it catches up to California.

Some geniuASS is going to buy @500K and look for a 700K sucker... I say he/she better hurry up...like they say ..genius until you are not...

No, it's not.

The constant threads of people having to dump on other cars to make their Corvette acceptable is lame. Enjoy what you have and stop making excuses for it. Both cars are fantastic.

Just the difference between being a Corvette guy and a car guy.
