My C6Z build thread

Hi all, i sold my H/C/I C5Z and picked this up from Oklahoma. The car looks like it came from Florida, then to Texas where it was at 21st Century Muscle car. It's got WCCH stage 2 heads, Callaway Honker, Cup wheels with PFADT longtubes and Corsa catback. It also used to have nitrous on it. The for sale ad said it had a cam, but I'm not convinced of that. If you recognize the car I'd love to hear from you.

When i got it home, the slave cylinder failed and i started tearing into it. It's really become a nightmare since then. I ordered a new Monster clutch (and supporting parts), pulled out the PFADT longtubes and catted X (for sale section), ordered new 2in ARH longtubes with no cats on the X and ordered a factory replacement fuel pump with the Racetronix harness and plug n play intermediate harness for a BAP if the need arises in the future. I'm considering a Trans brace when everything is out, assuming i find nothing else wrong/ broken.

When it's back together, i plan to have the tune updated. I spoke to the tuner at 21st and i think its got a nitrous tune on it still. The car feels down on power and off idle throttle response was a little soft.

I performed a compression test and everything checked well (big relief). Other plans this winter include a tune up with new plugs and wires, fixing some odds and ends, completely new fluids and maybe some drag radials and a shifter.

Anyway, got the car on the kwiklift and started tearing it apart. I found a trash bag jammed under the sideskirt, a wrench up on the bleeder valve the rear tires were mounted backwards and now my passenger window won't roll up past halfway. Ask me about the first day i owned the car. ..

Here are some pics i took tonight, this is a fairly in depth job pulling this apart. Enjoy and ill update as i go.

Thx,
Mike

Update. Exhaust, fuel pump with harness and clutch have all arrived. Space is tight in the garage.

I got the drivetrain out. I'm not familiar with working on these cars (came from mustangs) and so every nut and movement took longer than normal. I should get the clutch out this week and get a chance to inspect that and the slave. I will also likely put in new torque tube couplers and bushings.

Where is the best place to get those parts?

i picked up a trans jack from harbor freight and used some cedar to get the cradle down. Also, see the pic of the cabin air filter i replaced... nasty. Also, picked up a $20 wood dolly from lowes that will allow me to move the drivetrain around and store it under the car.

Enjoy the pics!

Yup, she's one of my 2 stars! Doesn't enjoy hanging out in the garage with me as much as I wished, unless she's riding her hoverboard!

No Vne.....Bad ass plate. What do you fly?

I Fly Low 11-28-2018 02:03 PM

Retired Blackhawks, thinking about getting back into them. Not many people recognize the plate!

STL Mike 11-28-2018 02:06 PM

I'm a pilot test engineer for boeing on the P-8 simulators, still do the Navy Reserve thing (Maintenance Officer). I get it! One of the best plates I've ever seen.

I love the plate as well! You can probably tell why from my profile pic.

Landru 11-29-2018 10:09 AM

Ambitious projects for sure, G/L.
In case it wasn't thought of, as long as rear's out think about installing a remote bleeder.
Might save some headaches, many here recommend 'em if/when rear's ouit.

STL Mike 11-29-2018 01:26 PM

Yup, got one with the Monster clutch kit.

MissileDoc 11-29-2018 01:51 PM

Good to see another Boeing guy on the forum. Looks like you have a fun project in the works.

STL Mike 11-29-2018 02:29 PM

yup, same to you!

Last night, I got the torque tube off and slave removed. My snap ring pliers were not big enough to remove the snap ring, so I need to grab a new tool on the drive home.

Excellent.

One last suggestion, post this where C6 Z06 owners are.
C6's Z06 forum: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums.../?prefixid=z06

Many owners there have done the same work you are., and more
Lots of good advice from solid longtime member-owners available, if needed.

STL Mike 11-29-2018 08:28 PM

Thanks for the suggestion landru, i im'd 2 mods to see if they'll accommodate the move.

Torque tube is disassembled and slave cylinder removed. I've not found a smoking gun as to why the clutch wouldn't disengage, but take a look.

Also, I'm very inclined to change the couplers and bearings while I'm this deep, but the couplers and bearings look good to me. I was at the dealer today and priced the oem bushings/ bearings at $715. Holy shit! Gonna call RPM tomorrow, any other thoughts?
