95 Red/Red #293 8k miles ends up at a dealer

Thought I saw this 1995 before on the forum, searched and couldn't find it.

Was listed at BAT (bring a trailer), then ebay, now either on consignment, or sold to a dealer :(

Hi All,

Interesting car. Heavy modifications for a low mile old car. Windshield is delaminated enough to cause visibility problems. I'm looking at it right now.

Any typical problems to spot on a lift at the dealership or things to ask to be addressed I may not be able to see? I've driven the car around the block, some light vibrations consistent with a car sitting forever perhaps and lots of drone from the aftermarket exhaust loading it up in high gear up hill but no errant behavior.

Thanks for your opinions.

Since its on a lift of course check out the normal stuff you would any car....Suspension ball joints etc etc.....May see some seepage near oil pan, common thing with ZR-1s, all though 8,000 miles, should be dry....

When you drive check both driving modes full and valet, I mean drive this thing !!! Make sure secondaries are opening on full power...

Go over some bumps as such with all three different suspension settings, should feel somewhat different in each.....These cars ride hard in any setting if you ask me....

Tires are probably original, need to be changed of course........Change all fluids !!!! Away you go...👍👍

Undercarriage is clean. No sign of leaks! No sign of being driven, really.

Or you can buy this for the asking price of 23K........91 with 522 HP..All the right mods .Evolution motorsports (Dempsey) did the build....49,000 miles.......All though when I get this thing on the open roads I'm like, do I really want to sell it?

Well, the C7Z06 keeps calling me.....There going mid 50's for some, most are in low 60's....

This is a very confusing car as the undercarriage interior and paint show well, as if it's never seen inclement weather. Factory markings and tags in general are still on undercarriage pipes, even paper tags.

Yet it has mods that are aggressive, huge long tube headers, no emission controls, etc.

I believe the answer is here, and I believe this is that car which to me compromises the value:

Give the dealer the usual " I can get a modified C6Z06, which you actually could get for there asking price"....
Dont shy away from the car because its modified...These cars respond well to mods....In my opinion they need them ....400 HP at 3,600 pounds, yes it needs them...

lwalling 11-30-2018 04:38 PM

I just passed on the deal at $37k after spotting the superchevy article and confirming this seems to be that car.

Looked at the car on a lift, drove it. Can't get past the sheer number of owners and the use of it for prototyping a supercharger setup. The mods are well done and all high end, clean work otherwise. I can't tell if there's any underlying damage from the boost, or removal of the hardware-certainly it was removed nicely and all looks tidy if not nearly new under the bonnet.

I wouldn't give 37 either....That car is not going anywhere for that price....

Down to $33,500.

They are to old in this market. The new ME will toss these even lower in value and there is no market there let alone parts!

You are wrong about “no parts”. Do you have any personal experience or are you just perpetuating rumors?

ccmano 05-07-2019 11:01 AM

I luv the no parts argument. If parts availability were an issue to the collector community half the classics and exotics out there wouldn’t exist. For the C4 ZR-1 parts availability is actually astonishingly good considering it’s a 30yr old car. Can you find every single part instantly, no, but that’s the case with any old car to one degree of another. Www.Jerrysgaskets.com is a prime example of a source for Z parts.

If someone is worried about parts availability owning a classic or exotic car is probably not for them. Those folks are better off with new or current production cars where the manufacturers are still making parts.

That said, what is an issue for the Z is finding someone who is willing and knows what their doing, locally, to work on an LT5 engine. Even many “Corvette” shops will not touch the engine because they don’t know it and are afraid of it. Worse, shops who have no clue try to work on it and screw it up even more. Nationally there are probably only a dozen shops that know the LT5 engine well and another dozen with passing knowledge. In Los Angeles for example there is not a single fully competent shop that knows the LT5. This, in my opinion, is what is holding the C4 ZR-1 back in value. Its not a car you can take to your local Corvette shop, speed shop or classic car shop to get fixed or modded. I does, on the other hand, allow someone like me, with limited means and passable technical skills to own what would otherwise be an American exotic.

By that logic, my 67 435HP coupe should be worth next to nothing, yet the market values it at more than twice the price of TWO C7 ZR-1s. How is that considering that parts are so hard to find for it?

I think the problem with this car is the mods. An identical stock car would (or should) bring the higher price because collectors typically prefer cars without backyard engineering - even if it is good backyard engineering.

95 with red guts and low miles is worth some coin. nice car. If I had it, I wouldn't part with it for less than 30, and it's priced fairly considering condition and miles

if someone wants the car and wants to "demod it" they are all easy to replace bolt on stuff and not "highly modified"

lwalling,
You should consider buying zrc3john's car or one of the many other cars for sale by an enthusiast either here or on ZR1netregistry You will get allot more car and a much more accurate assessment of what youre buying. Most of the guys who own these cars have a stack of receipts and a good history on their cars.
